Anyone ever made any TINY stuff for a babies funeral?
A friend of mine found out yesterday (& told me today) at 22 weeks of pregnancy that her baby has the worst form of spina bifida, no chance of survival, no top of the skull was formed & pretty much of of the brain is missing. I am at a total loss because I wanna do something for her but I can't make the baby have a better chance. The poor girl lost her 2 previous pregnancies earlier & as this baby has been kicking since it was 16 weeks she was kind of getting used to the fact that this one was going to be ok.
So I decided to knit or sew through the night, but I havent got a clue what to make...or what size really.

Does anyone know a pattern I could use? I read somewhere that the head of a baby at this age is about 9 inches, but I have no idea about the rest of the babies body.

I am also considdering on what to make her little boy who is almost 2 (he's my DS' friend)...any ideas?

Oh Mama! What a heartbreak. Perhaps youcould make a sack type garment. A hood, and then a knitted tube? They would still be able to see the face then? Can you "see" what I am seeing?

I know you will come up with the perfect thing.

I found a pattern for those...but they are sooooooooo depressing. I was hoping for something clotheslike. I am still searching!
She's being induced tommorrow so I'll have to be quick.

Oh Yvon, I am so sorry :hug

I know that there is a link somewhere for burial gowns. Let me take a look and see what I can find.

ETA: Here is the link I was looking for:

In Susan's link this one looks nice:

With a nice little contrasting hat. He can be wrapped in something you put your love for his mommy into.

My heart is just breaking for this woman! You are a wonderful friend, Yvon. :hug

I made a few of the burial gowns for our local hospital. I just used a doll pattern for a sweater and knit from the top down. I made a yoke, then increased for the skirt. Used a pretty eyelet pattern. Trimmed the waist with ribbon.
Sorry for your friend and her family.

thanx girls! I decided to sew some things, a tiny sleeper and some gowns'for different weights. They're finished & I'll bring them by when and if she wants.

Cass, there is a heartbeat, infact, the baby is fine inside the mommy but there is no chance of survival when he or she is born. I dont know why they would induce now but there is probably a good reason as our country is very natural/non-medical about all babies being born (75% at home)
