Hi all! My name is Christy and I know some of you from MDC :) This is my first post so I might as well make it an intro too! :)
I took a knitting class at my local Joann's and learned alot! I am knitting a scarf right now (yeah, I know Easy, easy) but I figure if I can finish that then I can move onto something a little harder.

So tell me, what is the easiest soaker pattern to start with?? I need something good for a newbie. :D

Thanks!

I dont think you can go wrong with any of the offerings! None of them is too tricky! You'll get lots of support no matter what you try.

:pink :wave welcome!

I'm just about to finish up my first soaker so I'll jump in here and say I think the Little Turtle Knits one is a good one to start with! :bigups: Before I started in on it, I looked up the short rows video at knittingatknoon.com and practiced it on swatches...still not altogether pleased with how that small part came out, but overall the LTK soaker was a lot of fun. Knitting in the round for the main part of the soaker goes quite quickly as you're knitting all the rounds and the directions for the bottom half are well written even for a beginner like me. I really like the fit of these soakers and am so pleased I can make them myself now!

The first real thing Liam ever knitted was Pam's chunky wonder soaker, and I think it came out great!

http://www.holliam.org/Diapers/Covers/Knitted%20Wool/LoopyRam/lr_first.jpg

He taught himself how to knit and just did practice stuff, not really making anything before taking her chunky wonder class. I think it was good too because using the chunky yarn makes it go so fast.

The Wonder Pants was a great second pattern because he learned short rows and the magic loop with that.

Holli, not meaning to sound like an ad for Pam's patterns but I really have been thrilled with them! :)

With either Theresa's or Pamela's pattern you get extra support and well written directions....
I really think that which you want to do depends a bit on what kind of fit you like in a soaker/what style you like...

I like Theresa's b/c I prefer the legs down to the side (I don't know how else to say that.) Pamela's pattern has them a bit to the front.... That said, I think Pamela's is better if you want to use a chunky weight yarn or want to customize the fit for your child.

I know a lot of people start out with the Fern and Fairie free pattern too...It is the pattern that inspired Pamela's design.I have not knit it so I don't know how it works up....

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the patterns.....just pick one and get started...

I agree that you will get support with either one.

That said, Tinybirds has a free pattern that is knit flat - but has seams.

www.holysheepyarns.com is pretty easy too, knit in the round, very easy and straight forward. That was my very first knitting project and I think it was very easy.

However, I now LOVE Pams pattern so I am really no help at all.

Yes so many options :)

I would go look at each of the soakers and decide which style you like the best :pink

My first knitting project was from the fern and faerie soaker pattern.

ITA!! Both ladies are way too nice! I've used both of their patterns and I love them! I'm going to buy more patterns from them soon, because I know that if I do need any help, they'll get back to me quickly!
My first soaker from a pattern was Tiny Bird Knits or something like that, and it was a great, addictive pattern.
(Is this shameless commerce? oops!)

Hi Christy! Welcome :wave

As for first patterns, I've only tried the fern and faerie free version and a couple of other free versions on the web, and they were pretty easy to do.

But I've heard that both Theresa LTK and Pam Wooly Wonders provide excellent support and have great patterns.

Good luck!

I like the Fern & Faerie & WonderPants pattern.
:D I prefer front loading legs, like in the WonderPants.

I want to do the Little Turtle Knits pattern next...

And the Bungalow Buns ones :pink

Just trouble here!!!

Oh the Bungalow Buns pattern is really nice too....I did a tester and have seen the "progression" of this pattern. It would be a really nice pattern to have since it presents so many different options in one place....and a basic soaker for starting out....

It would keep you happy and making different "looks" for a very long time....

Which reminds me I still have a leg opening to do on the one I knit up.
