I am knitting these pants with Noro wool. I love the look! But I know when I get to the legs the stripes are going to be bigger and not match each other. What do I do? I usually use a 12" circ and do one leg then the other. If I use the magic loop and 40" circs (which I don't have yet) will it look better? I will have to learn the magic loop if so LOL HELP!

I've actually read about a technique ( I think T of LTK posted it here somewhere) where you knit the entire pants as one big tube then you run two seams for the legs and actually cut the tube to form 2 legs. I haven't been brave enough to try it yrt!

Ok re reading about the magic loop made me think
if I kniw this on two 12" circs at the same time, how does that work?

Okay, far far from the expert here, (not even on the amateur scale) but from watching Liam magic loop with 40" circs, I think you actually work from two balls of yarn at the same time for each leg so not sure how that would work for you here.
I love the self striping of Noro so much but I haven't been able to wrap my head around how it could work for pants or shorts. It works so well for soakers. Sure you don't want this to be a soaker?

Knitting both legs at once won't make a difference on the stripes on the legs since you're knitting from two skeins.
Here is one option: when you get to the split for the legs, start the second skein at the same color point as your working skein. The stripes will still be wider, and they may not match exactly, but they will be a lot closer.

Michelle, that was my idea but I didnt think to start at the break for legs, I thought when I ran out of yarn (about halfway through leg 1 I was figuring)
your way would work! :) thanks!
Holli, *blush* I donno how to knit soakers LOL

If you split your stitches exactly in half you will get basically the same patternmaybe a bit bigger

the second leg was a little off because I had a knot in my yarn from where it broke that I had to untie and it through off the second leg, but its still pretty close

That only works when the colorway repeats itself twice or more in 1 row in the body, this will then divide up nicely into a similar legpattern. So you were very lucky! With the Noro you are going to get bigger blocks of colour. The only way around that is to break the thread several times.
I still havent found a way to repeat the exact same pattern in the leg other than to be very precise when I dye the yarn. If I make a skein as long as one round of the body or the leg will be I usually end up with a nice pattern...but sometimes really freaky things happen! http://home.planet.nl/~bosse165/images/wol/wolpaars%20018.jpg & http://home.planet.nl/~bosse165/images/wol/fee%20en%20shirt%20060.jpg

Something you might want to do is to swatch a leg....
cast on the number of stitches that will be in the leg and knit the tube....You should see pretty fast how the pattern is going to work up....It won't be like the body but you might find you like it just as much.
And if you start both legs in same spot in the colorway sequence they "should" be more similar if you just go with something more random.....
You don't have to break the yarn you are working with now....just see where it is when you start the leg and make sure to start the other leg in the same spot....Also be sure you aren't working from the "wrong" end of the skein (I have made that mistake on projects before.)
My guess is that your pants will look really cool - but maybe not what you hope for.

I know, Yvon is too cool for me!
A local MDC mama actually bought this yarn for me to knit the pants with, and she relaly wants pants not a soaker, so we'll see what happens!!!

The cutting technique is called making a steek. I dont have a lot of info on it, but it involves machine sewing after you cut, I believe.

Problem: I have 2, I knit for #1, when he outgrows anything (which takes LONG with wool! I loooooooooove that!) #2 wears things. When she's finished I will usually have bonded with the item & I can't sell it anymore.
Confession: I haven't knitted anything for either since the tights. Even my tester stuff gets bought up by 1 certain mommie.

I only meant for getting stripes as wide as they are in the body you would have to break it. But I agree with you, gettign stripes a little wider in the legs would still look awesome with this yarn.

I did this once but I could get the crotch to look as I wanted it to. I used a serger & some webbing for the "cut"
