View Full Version : Appliques on Long Pants
I have a question--
I want to do a wool fabric applique on a pair of pants I knit. Is this possible?
And what kind of yarn would I need to use? The same tapestry yarn on Wonderful Woolies or a different knit?
Thanks, mamas! :pink

With an applique you would have to make sure all the edges are down somehow. Like I take plain undershirts for the babe, get like 1/18th of a yard of fabric that has a cute print I like, cut out the print and use ...oh....the bond stuff that you iron on...ack ykwim. Then I got around the whole thing with a blanket stitch with embroidery thread. The thread is really just for looks. I mean it helps to keep it on there, but the heatbond stuff is really what's keeping the applique on. Wow...what a terribly long and not very helpful response. :pink

Hi Melissa,
Sorry I didn't see your message earlier. Are you looking to sew wool fabric on to hand knit pants? I'm not sure if this would work, because it would interfere with the stretch of the knitted pants. And where the applique is stitched to the pants may make holes in your knitted garment. You may want to try knitting an applique and then attaching it to your pants because they will both have the same stretch.
Hope this helps!

I only thought about it because I made a stretchy fleece cover once out of a used Old Navy scarf and I thought it would be cute to sew the Old Navy tag to the bum. Well, the first time she wore it the tag ripped to shreds because the cover stretched and the tag didn't LOL! I'm thinking with a knitted item that it would probably ruin the stitches and pull them all out of shape.
But maybe someone else out there has had some luck?

Oh! Can you use the applique as a template and embroider the design?
Ok I need to take the class so I can learn to embroider and make my visions come true :LOL
I was going to do something on the bum a la cloth diaper-y. The wool I was given is stretchy. Well most of the scraps are. But maybe if I did it on the front of the leg at the bottom.
Just a fun motif.
I have issues and do things in solids, so I would like to jazz pants up.
Thanks, mamas!!
