I am making a simple scarf for my brother for christmas.

It will be alternating stripes of two colors. I want it to be 72" long (6 ft). I am going to knit it in the round and seam the ends (like some of the Harry Potter patterns I've seen)

My first stripe will be 6" of blue, next stripe 4" yellow, 4" blue, 4" yellow and so forth until the last stripe 6" blue.

My question is how wide should it be? I'm thinking 6"???

6-8" is typical
Can I make a suggestion? If you are doing it in the round, I'd usggest to make the two "side seams" in garter ridges, so that they will make nice folding points and the scarf will lay nice and flat ;) Or, slip that stitch on each side everyother row and it'll make a nice fake seam.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to try the slipped stitch idea :pink
