I knitted at the grocery store while walking around.
DH pushed the cart with DS. We were really just browsing at this great store here in Cinci, so I knitted while I walked.
I am so proud of myself. I had the ball of yarn in my knitting bag over my shoulder (I use a vera bradley bag to hold my work in progress). I am making a pair of longies and I am still knitting the body, so it was easy knitting.
You should have seen the looks I got :D
Yeah me  I felt very productive! :didit

good for you! i've done it around the house but never out and about. It's usually me withe the kid attached, though :)
The woman who works at my yarn store is ALWAYS knitting. i've seen her in line for lunch, on the subway, walking on the sidewalk, crossing the street against the light (hah. new yorkers!) all over the place, knitting. and she knits while you're asking her for help and stuff. she always wears a sweater with huge pockets, and has the ball in one pocket, then, if she needs to get you some yarn or something, she stuffs her project in the other pocket and pokes the needles through the sweater so her work doesn't slip off. it's impressive to see people knit and function at the same time!

I knit at the movie theatre yesterday. DH wanted to see Spiderman so of course we had to get there early and stand in line and then sit in the theatre for a while before the movie started. I just brought my knitting along and worked on it so I didn't mind waiting at all.

I wear overalls alot and put the yarn in the pockets. I usually take my knitting to the park when I am just following the kids around. I sometimes also have it in the car and knit it stop lights...and then just drop it to my lap when the light changes.

Yep I was at jungle jims! Do you live around Cincinnati?
Those are all great ideas, knitting in the movies, slings for yarn, pockets...
I don't know it never occured to me before to try knitting in public (while doing something else). I feel very liberated

I live about 1.5 hours away from JJ's, and it's SO worth the trip. I love that place!!! We're actually due for another trip soon, we just have to figure out when, and convert our trunk into an ice chest.
I've knit in public, but I can't knit-and-walk, so mostly I confine myself to knitting in the car (like on the way to JJ's!) or when waiting for a movie. I'm very impressed by those of you who can do more, especially with kids in tow! :bow

I got quite a few looks at the Maryland Sheep and Woll festival as I was nursing greg in teh sling AND knitting while I was walking around ;)
Now, you've got to master reading to your kids and knitting, LOL. I think I started doing that after reading about Elixabeth Zimmermann doing it in one of her books ;)
