Hi, my name is Shannon and I'm new to knitting. I just started a basic ribbed scarf and I have a few questions. The pattern that I read calls for 2 skeins of a bulky yarn and says to cast on 32 sts and then to k2 p2 until both skiens are done.

Very simple easy pattern, except I didn't realize that it called for bulky yarn until I started. I only have two balls (skeins?) of yarn that seems to be regular thickness and they're 100g each.

My 1st question is, how much length is going to be taken off the width of the scarf? Should I rip it apart and cast on more than 32 sts?

And 2nd, how much shorter will my scarf turn out? Will it look like a child's scarf when it's done? Is there anyway to calculate exactly/roughly how long it will be when finished?

Or should I just rip it apart and start something else?

measure how many stitches you get per inch across, and how many rows per inch lengthwise. Make sure you measure over 4 inches and divide by 4 to get a more accurate answer. Then, plug those numbers into the pattern. If you are getting 4sts/in and cast on 32 sts, then your scarf will be about 8" wide.
