OK, I need to make a drawstring for the soaker I just finished. First soaker, first knitting project ever! :cheer SO, I started knitting an Icord w/ the sz 3 needles I have, but it seems like it's going to be too thick. How can I make a nice, narrow I-cord? Do I just use really tiny needles? I am using Fisherman's wool, btw.

TIA! :pink

While the 3 stitch Icord seems to be the most popular, I do a 2 stitch one, using the same DPN I use for the waist/cuffs and the proportions always seem to work out for me. besides, I think a 2 stitch I cord looks like a cube of knitting and i think that's pretty cool :D

I have been doing a 3 stitch but I think I will try a two stitch too....Oh I am going to use a different emoticon for this one... :knit (just imagine this with dpn and I cording on the needles!)

You could also crochet a chain for the drawstring instead of the icord. Just a thought.

the 2 stitch isn't as "substantial" as a 3 stitch but plenty stury and nicely stretchy. I like it, it's my "signature knitted cube string" as my husband calls it.

Crochet is finer still than the 2 stitch, but personally, i find it flimy and I'm always afraid i'm going to unravel it or something.

I tried the 2 stitch last night and it's exactly what I was hoping for! Yay!

BTW, I did try crocheting also, but it seemed too flimsy.

Yay! glad it worked out for you! and yes, flimsy is what i meant by flimy :)

I use the 2 stitch too. 3 stitches were just too fat, even on sz 3 dpns.

:) I use 2 strands and crochet a drawstring-just perfect!

i use 2 st i cord for drawstrings around the legs, 3 sts for waist.

I use one strand of fishermans and crochet the drawstring. Never had it break or unravel and I don't find it flimsy at all. I like thin drawstrings - I find them easier to tie.
