I had this idea, but don't want to waste a perfectly good 8 ounces of grey eco. It's fairly dark, one shade lighter than pewter.

I have... it was a medium grey lambswool... I dyed it with blue moon berry and got a very dark blue... Ill see if I can find the swatch... you can always cut off just a little and dye that little bit with a small amount in teh method you usually do and see how it turns out

I think we're going to attempt it tomorrow. We have some of the gray FBF that I got with the intention of getting darker colors using koolaid.
Here is a color swatch I found online that lead me to believe this would work...

I recently overdyed some medium-grey sock yarn and was very pleased with the results. I actually used sugar free Jell-O, since that was all I had on hand, but followed the same process as for Kool-Aid. The reds and oranges that I used came out almost as brightly as they would on natural yarn. The main difference was that the variegation/contrast between the hues was more muted.

Not with KoolAid but with acid dyes. I dyed a nice naturally-silver yarn. It turned out really pretty, a toned-down antique look. Was gonna use it to knit to sell but couldn't bear to part with it. I'm not sure how a silver-DYED yarn compares to a NATURALLY-silver yarn though (if the dyes would interact in a wierd way)
