I know that this has been discussed, but I have a question. I really need to add like an inch to my ribbing on the waist band. Is it possible for my to pick up stitches at my cast on edge and just do an inch of ribbing? I thought I'd do that and then just thread my drawstring through there to cover it up. Does that sound like it would work? :chin

I'd probably snip the yarn at the cast on edge, pull out the cast on, then pick up and knit, so you don't have that weird bulge where the cast on ends and it's a more fluid ribbing :)

That was my first idea, but the thought of actually cutting into makes me break out in a sweat.....

It is just one little snip! It won't be much at all if you happen to be able to find the very end of the bound off edge.
My fear is always that I will miss picking something up or twist stitches (which I just discovered I did to the underarm of my Ds's sweater...Thankfully it is fewer than 8 stitches and all hidden from view!)
