View Full Version : Wool over disposables?

I've had a mostly-cloth-using (fleece AIOs only) mama contact me to make a couple wool soakers to go over the Nature's Boy and Girl disposables they use when traveling. I'm more than happy to do it (gets me money, I'm glad to see she knows the value of natural products, that she doesn't just run out and buy the disposables with way more chemicals when she encounters slight leakage problems, etc), but it does kind of tickle my funny bone, KWIM?

So has any one else done this or heard of such a "heresy" being performed? What do you think?

even worse I did a cotton/acrylic blend "diaper cover" for a newborn. It was for a realtive's friend and I had no chance of getting to the mom and converting her. I didn't realize how much the function of the soakers mattered to me until I did that. I don't think I'll do it again.
I am supposed to knit one for trade with my local lys owner. Again, I can't get to the mama, but I figure that maybe if she realizes that the soaker prevents leaks she'll go "hmmmm''.....it could happen! ??

Well...I have to use spoises at daycare :mur ...don't get me started...

But I sent DS there yesterday in his wool cargo shorts over a spoise, I think they are too cute to only be used for their intended purpose on the weekends (where we use cloth). Everyone liked them, but did not have a clue as to what their really used for.

I would and have thought about making soakers for friends how do not CD as baby gifts, just because soakers are so cute, I already have the pattern and sometimes hats and baby sweaters are boring. JMHO. (of course I never got around to it... :bag )

I've done it before. :bag

It was for dd's christening, and I didn't want her to feel wet during the ceremony because she used to really hate being wet and I didn't want her to cry. But I wanted to really make sure she wouldn't leak with a blowout, and the only blowout-proof covers I have are my wool ones.

I hope nobody thinks less of me because of this

Of course not!!! Don't be silly!!! I had to use 'sposies for my dd while she was at daycare as well and I never felt guilty for doing it(using the wool covers over them).

Fortunately, she is out of daycare and in her :cd ft now, and we are loving that we finally have that opportuntiy!!

I would say that knitting for a non CDing mom maybe harder for those of us whom are using CD's, to only use a natural fabric just for "show" and not really against your babe's skin, well, I think I would have a bit of an issue with that myself, lol
Maybe you could at the lys, request that you cuold put up a flyer sort of like soliciting your services??? Maybe insert a few ideas and facts on the why's and benefits of CDing???

Congrats Rachel on being able to stay home!! I left work in november to be home with my boys and haven't looked back!

Sposies are very leak prone... my don't mind cloth but prefer sposies hubby was converted the day of a family wedding when DS leaked poo out of his sposie! Fortunately, it was before we left. Hubby even finished the diaper laundrt that day he wanted to use the cloth so bad!

Sposies are so leaky - I can never get them cinched up around the waist, becuase they stretch out when they wear them. And if they poo, it always comes out the legs. Eww. Cloth is much better! I've not had the up-the-back (bionic poops, as Dh calls them) in cloth. Though Emma managed to poop out the leg hole of her prefold, out her soaker, and out her pant leg without hitting anything but my Dh's shorts! Don't know how she managedthat one.
