Gift Idea HELP

I am doing a dyeing/felting kit for an almost 8yo boy. I am thinking of doing something that's crocheted to go along with it (to dye and felt for different effect). What would you do? Thats FAST and EASY to do? I was thinking of a potholder, but would wool work for a potholder?

Wool would work wonderfully.. It's flame resistant.. You have to keep the fire on it for it to burn.. Remove it from the flame and it goes out.. Ain't wool great??!!!
