LOL, yeah I know the title says it all :moon
I was thinking of doing that crotch shaping thing where you knit a small flap and kitchener it to the back and then pick up the stitches in the flap... but Im not sure how to begin. Normally with my own pattern I knit from beginning marker to middle marker, set aside a few of those sts then knit the leg, then start at the top again for the other leg and come back at the end and kitchener the sts I set aside.
But with this shaping thing, how am I suppose to section off the sts and such? Make sense?

You mean a gusset? A few mamas here do that in their patterns, so hopefully they can help you out. :)

Laura, what do you like to do for the crotch?

I don't have a pattern like that, but I kitchener some of my crotch sts together and then pick up two sts on either side. If you made the crotch flap longer (beyond just stitching the pieces together), then you would knit the flap, kitchener it together, pick up your sts and start doing the leg. I think you just need to do it in order to understand it.

well I was trying to get advice on the starting part.... like do I knit to my half way marker then set aside? or set aside first then knit?

Hi! I do a crotch gusset in my pattern, so hopefully I can help. There are two ways you can start it. One way is to begin the gusset just as you're starting a new round, which results in having your "side seam" near the middle of your pants (not good if you're doing stripes b/c the jog will be in the middle of your pants). The other method is to determine where you are going to start the gusset and start with a new strand of yarn.
If you do it the way you're thinking, by knitting to your center marker and then making the gusset, one half of one leg will have an additional row in it. Not much of a problem if you're using one color, but if you're going to do any type of stripes, they won't match up.
I'm not really good at explaining things but I hope this helps!:)

I was fixin to start doing it, LOL
I knit to my center marker and took 5 sts from the beginning of that section and 5 sts from the end of my unknit section(which is how I normally do when I just kitchener the crotch) I did short rows so I had to make sure it had a definite place. Im using all the same color yarn(patons denim marl) so mismatched legs isnt a problem, LOL.
Hope fully it will go well cause Id hate to frog it again, LOL
wish me luck!

That will definitely work! I didn't even think of the short row issue. Next time you may want to start with a new piece of yarn - the loose ends also make it easier to close up the holes on either side of the gusset.

ok susan I hope you are on and reading this, LOL
I did the flap and kitchener'd it to the back, it looks good so far, but how do I pick up stitches? Im holding one needle in one hand and one in the other and there is this big space to take care of, I did 10 rows so I figure thats 10sts to pick up... and just now I realized I did more rows than I wanted, I wanted 5 rows and did 10, LOL, Im such a doof, anyway. What do I do with my LH needle to pick up the stitches since my RH needle has the working yarn?

I think I may have figured out the picking up sts from another thread... tell me if Im right
take a loose piece of yarn and a crochet hook, put the crotch hook through/behinf the last sts on the row and create a sts with the yarn
is that about right?

when I picked up the sts Im not sure I did it right cause now I have a ?row? of sts on the inside sort of like a seam.

I think I am one of the most impatient people I know when it comes to knitting, LOL, I frogged it and I think Im just going to go with my usual way until I can get everything together and laid out so I can get it and get it done. Dont have a lot of free time to knit over here so I dont want to waste it waiting for help.

I'm sorry I didn't read this sooner. Yes, you did pick up the sts correctly. It looks perfect to me! I hope you didn't :pezfrog it yet!

Yeah I already did frog it... I so hate these pants, LOL... first it was the yarn in the waist acting weird then it was the short rows and i frogged it so many times the yarn is all fuzzy then I tried the crotch and well I think these pants want me dead, LOL
I did my math wrong, LOL, so I needed to frog it anyway. I think I might try again if I feel the mood, LOL
So everything I had done was right? even the weird seam on the inside?

Yep, you did everything right. When you pick up sts along an edge, you will wind up with a "seam" on the inside. It is not a mistake, that's just the way it looks :)

I have a pic in my blog of a gusset. Yes you did pick up the stitches right :)
I've been fiddling with the gusset and have decided that's the best way to do it for me at least.
