Kool Aid? Wilton's? Acid dyes? :faint
I still haven't figured out which I'd like the best. And I haven't really tried anything other than open skeins and a couple of colors. But I really know jack squat about dyeing other than how to do it on the stove or microwave with an open skein (and theoretically how to do an acid dye based on having done clothing)... and I need to know more.
Can you tell me what's your favorite method, what's the favorite dye job you've done so far, how you did it, etc? And maybe a picture? :D

mine with the pink pants with kool aid open skein but I used my hands to dip it in until I got the right colors. It was the prettiest but I dont think it would be good for doing different colors, these were all pinks.

about 1/2 a jar of Wilton's ....and if you could see up close to the yarn...down toward the bottom of the legs....before the cuffs...there are spots where hte black fades to green.
I've used KA, Wiltons, and Acid dyes; my favorite is the acid dye. I did these in teal, periwinkle, black, purple, sapphire blue, and emerald

So how are you guys working with the skeins when they're being dyed? Are they all open in a circle? Twisted? Then are you doing all the colors at once or waiting until they dry?

I do a figure 8 skein on the back of my kitchen chairs.....then I put one end of the skein in a bath of color in my slow cooker.....I flip that end over (so that what is resting on the bottom of the cooker is not the same all the time) a few times during the process and stir the water a bit to try and be sure it is getting distributed well.....
I use either a chop stick or the lid of the slow cooker to hold the none dyeing end out of the bath...
When the first color is done....I squeeze out the excess water and proceed to the second color where I dye the other end.....
Typically the middle of my figure 8 is a blending of the two colors. (The orange KA and black Wilton's was actually wrapped on a different chair and I ended up with bigger sections of black than I intended.)

I just dye it all at one time... then I set it.

I really like this green I did once. I used three diff coolaid (have you ever tried the green apple koolaid? awsome color) I made it sage-ey by over dying it with tea. A friend asked me to dye it for her, but then decided she can't knit, so I guess its mine. I'll see if I can scrounge up a pic.
have an idea for a cool christmas colorway, but I'll need a good dark blue or navy, so I need to wait for a dharma co-op :yawn
