View Full Version : The Logic of Short Rows...

I read the other thread, I read the Knitty article, I watched the video Cass recommended...but I am still stressing these things (once I do it I will laugh at myself right? :D).

I like to "get" it before I start. I understand HOW they are done...What I am not getting is this (b/c most everything I have seen is for a straight knit pattern), I do my wraps starting with the 2 stitches closest to my hip markers on either side right?

Then, I go in every 2 stitches doing only a total 3 (Oh I am doing the WonderPants in m/l) at the specified areas. For a total of 6 wraps (2 on 3 different levels). So really only 3 short rows?

And then my last logic question....I am at the beginning: I do a wrap right at the hip marker, knit across, do a wrap right before the other hip marker. Then I turn purl back? All inside the hip markers, not touching the front? When I get back I continue to knit in the round until xx" and go 2 stitches in from my hip markers and repeat?

Am I making sense? I should just do it and if I mess up, oh well! :D

*sigh* I read way too much into these things. :pink

THanks, mamas for trying to decipher my issues!

you should just do it and you'll understand everything a WHOLE lot better.

No! you are at the beginning, you knit across to one stitch before marker. you slip, wrap, turn... you purl back to one stitch before other hip marker. you slip wrap, turn. you resume knitting int he round as usual, knitting wraps and stitches together when you come to them.

, knit across, do a wrap right before the other hip marker. Then I turn purl back? All inside the hip markers, not touching the front? When I get back I continue to knit in the round until xx" and go 2 stitches in from my hip markers and repeat?

INSIDE HIP MARKERS = Back or front.

You are doing the short rows to add height and tushie room to the back of the soaker. The hip markers are on the hips. Between the hip markers is either the front or the back. The side where you are making the short rows is the BACK!

Get me?

:D I actually think I understand.

But the only thing I am still iffy on is--I just have to do it to 3 rows total on the m/l pants right? :LOL Just want to make sure....of course!

And then I think I am ready to tackle it!!!

Marnie, if you want to hold my hand, I will not say no hehe, I think I just need some IRL help (we need to have SnB during the day so you can come!!!!) :pink

Each time you insert a short row you are basically adding two rows... purl back adn knit forward again. That's two rows each time, total of six rows = about 1" additional height in the back. You want more height, add more short rows!

I do hope I am understanding, but like ms. marnie said I just need to try it.

And I will get it. For some reason, I am not visualizing how it will all take place but oh well. I will jump in head first. I am going to SnB tomorrow, maybe someone there will be able to help if I cannot steal some marnie time :LOL
