I'm not really frustrated, just wondering if I am doing something wrong. I just learned how to knit and my fingers are sore and I think I am building callouses (sp?). Is that normal?
So far in the last three weeks I have knitted half a baby blanket (33" X 42" finished), one small LTK soaker, and the baby tart hat brim TWICE (now that's a black pit!). :) So I have been doing ALOT of knitting.
Also, the Patton's Grace mercerized cotton yarn is really hard on my hands (because it is so small, maybe?).
Any thoughts?

I bought some little *thimble* things at Hobby Lobby. They are peel off, stick on pieces of flexible plastic that you can put on your sore areas. I have two... my right index finger, and on my middle finger in the middle. Don't know where that came from.
So yes... it is normal.
Hope that brim on the tart hat works out for you.

My right index finger is a mess from pushing the needle down :LOL And I'm getting a major rough spot on the side of my left hand middle finger because I hold the yarn funny. It's like learning guitar all over...gotta get those callouses!
:love
Where's the spell check??? Pam, I can't believe you don't have spell check on here!!!

I've heard people say that certain wool yarns actually soften their hands because of the lanolin in them. I haven't developed any calouses yet, but I've certainly wondered if it was going to happen. Maybe it's the fact that I've been knitting with wool that I haven't gotten any...

I only use wool, too. I think it's where I get going at a decent rate and it's almost like a friction thing. Only thing I've been able to come up with anyways :LOL

Oh Danica! Did you notice your new title?
OK....now back on topic: my index finger gets really sore from pushing the stitches off the needle, too. And I get an actual groove in my finger where the yarn "feeds" through. Do you think maybe that means Ishould loosen up my tension?

Awesome! Thank you.
I can deal with paying my dues, I just wanted to be sure I had to pay them first. :)
