ok, so I started learning to knit three months ago, and I did the default beginner stuff: 2 scarves (kinda kewl, even though I'm not a scarf wearer), a roll brim hat (useless until I'm called out for the lead in an all-male version of Annie Hall)...and then I decided to make something I actually want: fingerless gloves. I like to hike alot , and I go through several pairs of these each year. So, I got me some o' dat felted tweed, and my sister who's the uber-knitter of all time coached me through the joining round and the thumb attachment, and I did all the rest, including finger tubes, thumb gusset and cuff. I'm doign the second knuck all by my itty bitty self, and it's nearing completion and looking SCHWEET! I made a few changes to the original pattern that others might find useful:

1. For some reason, when I tried to knit the cast-on tail through the first round, the edges of my first set of finger tubes looked hideous--uneven, imperfect...blechh. Acting on the advice of my sis, I just did a fairly tight cast-on, joined to work in the round (keeping things fairly tight) and cruising to the suggested length. This yields a perfect finger opening, with a left-over tail just in case you need to do any finishing--if not, just weave it in.

2. I didn't bother counting rounds on the finger tubes or the glove itself. the pattern and the wool seem pretty forgiving, and as long as you measure fairly accurately, everything will come out great. I did make sure to do complete rounds (your cast on-tail and / or marker tells you when a round is done).

3. The single-ply ribbed cuff seemed a bit weak. the glove is still perfectly wearable, but to get a nicer cuff, I doubled the recommended length, then folded it inward, securing it with a round of sewn-in yarn.

knux r KOOL!

thx for the great pattern! :sunshine

You're welcome! Share some photos when you're done!

Another thing to try on the cuff is to go down needle sizes to get more hug.

Thanks for sharing the love!
