Hello everyone! I joined this forum before we were even allowed to post, but am only now getting around to introducing myself. I did send Pamela feedback on her web site, does that count?

My name is Amy and I am mama to Andrew Leo who is 16 months, and wife to Kevin who is a bunch more months than Andrew! :) I am a Computer Engineer in the real world, but that's not as exciting as my family, so I will be staying home with Andrew soon...four more months and counting...

I have been cloth diapering Andrew since he was 5 months old, and sewing his diapers since he was 7 months old. It didn't take long for me to get the hang of cloth diapering and start saying, "I can do that!"

We went on vacation at the beginning of the month and I picked up a book "Complete Idiot's Guide to Knitting and Crocheting," since I do neither, but refuse to pay $18 for one done by someone else. Yeah, I know I'm stubborn. Although, I must say that the work that has been done by the mamas in this forum is phenomenal and $18 would be a steal! The only soakers I had ever seen before were just plain, or at the most hand-dyed.

Anyhoo, I learned to knit first, because Patti says crochet is easier and faster, and I figured if I learned that first I would never get around to knitting. So now I am one washcloth, half a baby afghan (intermediate, even!), and one LTK soaker (fisherman's wool dyed with KA) into knitting.

Believe it or not, I had fallen in love with the baby tart hat before this forum was up and already purchased my yarn (Patton's Grace in cardinal and natural) and knitted up the brim *twice* and FROGged it *twice*. Grrr... apparently I was meant to be a part of the KAL. :) Count me in for that!

Let's see....what else? Oh yeah, I used the Michael's 40% coupon I get in the mail every other week to purchase the Boye knitting set (with interchangable needles, circular cables, etc), and then again to purchase the Boye crochet set (just got that today!).

I was too late in finding out from Patti that for yarn substitution only the weight matters, not necessarily the content and spent a small fortune at Patternworks on Debbie Bliss yarn and bamboo needles. There are for a couple of projects in a Debbie Bliss pattern book I purchased at the same time I bought my "idiot" book, before I knew better. (Now I only grab free online patterns - not including the soaker and hat pattern I have from LTK) So I have this GORGEOUS cashmerino yarn that will ruin me for cheaper yarns for life! :) I am really looking forward to knitting it up.

I plan to go through the "idiot" book for the crochet learning, once I get the blanket, Debbie Bliss patterns, baby tart hat, LTK hat, and couple more soakers done. That should give me a solid start into knitting!!! ....now to find the time...

...speaking of time: I have to say that I really LOVE the fact that knitting is so social and mobile! I have been sewing since high school, and love it, but I'm stuck at my sewing table and can't do it when Andrew is awake or we are out and about. Knitting is fabulous, because I can do it all over the house, and in public, and while Andrew is up and playing, and, and, .... it is just soooo flexible.

Okay, I'm guessing you have all just had enough of me, so I'll go along my merry way and start a post-a-rama!

Hey Patti! Check it out they have your emoticon!!! :moon

Hey Amy! Looks like I'm the only one who voted for option 3 - so you know it's me! And yes, I noticed that they have my emoticon and I've been waiting for an opportunity to use it! :moon :moon :moon :moon :moon :moon

Hey Amy - I just have to ask where you got your username? Is it from PEZ dispensers? If so - very cool! :bigups:

Actually, *I* am a pez dispenser. :brow

My last name is Pezzoni, so when I had Andrew (also a Pezzoni), I "officially" became a Pez Dispenser.

My username on MDC is mamapup, because Kevin's family has all "pup" nicknames. Unfortunately, I couldn't be mamapup through Yahoo! because that name is taken. So I became mamapez. :D

Thanks for clearing that up! LOL! I like the mental image I get of a REAL live human Pez dispenser!

If you're a Pez dispenser... that must have been one interesting birth! :ribbit What'd the BC (baby catcher) think???

First, You are a riot! It is a pleasure to meet you :)

Second, welcome to the dark side... I have found the "needle arts" of knitting and crocheting to be just an amazing release of creative energy. They fill my need to have something in my hands at all time and to feel productive so I can enjoy hanging out in the backyard watching my son play in the sandbox for HOURS on end a bit more. :)

I too have the Boye knitting set and :inlove: with it. The flexability is amazing. I love that I can knit all these patterns and to gauge without having to buy a ton of needles. I too got mine with a Michael's coupon, do you live in Texas? I had a gift card and the 8 Michael's in St. Louis didn't carry the set so a friend in Texas had to buy it and ship it to me :irked I am so glad to have it though. (BTW: I use the Boye crochet needles too :D)

I too, have not had an opportunity to use all my words today. I am usually typing one handed while nursing though, so most posts are short and mispelled... it's nice to have two hands free... ahh, and Kudos on staying home! I managed an I.T. Department before "retiring" to work 10x as hard taking care of my kiddos in November. It's MUCH more rewarding, IMNSHO :D

I think we shall get along just fine

My midwife was out of town when Andrew was born, so we got the obstetrician I had as backup. He didn't think my dispenser was open wide enough, so he gave me an episiotomy...the only non-natural thing about the birth besides the fact that I was in a hospital. :( He kept wanting me to lay back. Obviously, he has never seen a pez dispenser before, or he would know that they are always upright when you get the sweets out. :D Of course, I am a VERY stubborn dispenser and stayed upright. Anyhoo, barring unforseen complications, all of the rest of my babies will be born at home! ...so I can tip my head waaay back in peace... :brow

Thank you for the welcome. I am living in Modesto, California (you know, that place where bad things happen - think Chandra Levy and Laci Petersen, just for starters).

I have made the plunge on the 47" addi turbo set from patternworks.com. So all my small circular (less than 20") work will be done on those via magic loop. I will use the boye set for flexible straights and whatever circs I can get with only one cable. I am currently doing the tart hat using the boyes and the magic loop method. Let me tell you (like you could stop me - HA!), that the joiner in the middle of the two cables is just a TAD annoying! It will be nice to have the addis for the magic loop stuff. :lookroun:

I love meeting new people, and it is great to meet everyone here. If it weren't for the internet, I would never meet you and learn so much!

:bigups: :inlove:

It's alot annoying!! However, being sans the $$ for the Addis, it lets me knit lots of stuff without needle expense every time! Thus far, I've resisted touching an addi for fear of an uncontrollable love affair :D

I'm hoping I only buy the one set and magic loop everything happily. Once I get hooked on the addis and stop wanting to magic loop it, I'm going to be in BIG trouble! :nod
