Hello everyone! I joined this forum before we were even allowed to post, but am only now getting around to introducing myself. I did send Pamela feedback on her web site, does that count?
My name is Amy and I am mama to Andrew Leo who is 16 months, and wife to Kevin who is a bunch more months than Andrew! :) I am a Computer Engineer in the real world, but that's not as exciting as my family, so I will be staying home with Andrew soon...four more months and counting...
I have been cloth diapering Andrew since he was 5 months old, and sewing his diapers since he was 7 months old. It didn't take long for me to get the hang of cloth diapering and start saying, "I can do that!"
We went on vacation at the beginning of the month and I picked up a book "Complete Idiot's Guide to Knitting and Crocheting," since I do neither, but refuse to pay $18 for one done by someone else. Yeah, I know I'm stubborn. Although, I must say that the work that has been done by the mamas in this forum is phenomenal and $18 would be a steal! The only soakers I had ever seen before were just plain, or at the most hand-dyed.
Anyhoo, I learned to knit first, because Patti says crochet is easier and faster, and I figured if I learned that first I would never get around to knitting. So now I am one washcloth, half a baby afghan (intermediate, even!), and one LTK soaker (fisherman's wool dyed with KA) into knitting.
Believe it or not, I had fallen in love with the baby tart hat before this forum was up and already purchased my yarn (Patton's Grace in cardinal and natural) and knitted up the brim *twice* and FROGged it *twice*. Grrr... apparently I was meant to be a part of the KAL. :) Count me in for that!
Let's see....what else? Oh yeah, I used the Michael's 40% coupon I get in the mail every other week to purchase the Boye knitting set (with interchangable needles, circular cables, etc), and then again to purchase the Boye crochet set (just got that today!).
I was too late in finding out from Patti that for yarn substitution only the weight matters, not necessarily the content and spent a small fortune at Patternworks on Debbie Bliss yarn and bamboo needles. There are for a couple of projects in a Debbie Bliss pattern book I purchased at the same time I bought my "idiot" book, before I knew better. (Now I only grab free online patterns - not including the soaker and hat pattern I have from LTK) So I have this GORGEOUS cashmerino yarn that will ruin me for cheaper yarns for life! :) I am really looking forward to knitting it up.
I plan to go through the "idiot" book for the crochet learning, once I get the blanket, Debbie Bliss patterns, baby tart hat, LTK hat, and couple more soakers done. That should give me a solid start into knitting!!! ....now to find the time...
...speaking of time: I have to say that I really LOVE the fact that knitting is so social and mobile! I have been sewing since high school, and love it, but I'm stuck at my sewing table and can't do it when Andrew is awake or we are out and about. Knitting is fabulous, because I can do it all over the house, and in public, and while Andrew is up and playing, and, and, .... it is just soooo flexible.
Okay, I'm guessing you have all just had enough of me, so I'll go along my merry way and start a post-a-rama!
Hey Patti! Check it out they have your emoticon!!! :moon
