View Full Version : talk to me about wool liners/doublers

This tiny little baby is a seriously heavy wetter ... I have hemp doublers that I've been using, but was wondering if a wool doubler/liner would be more effective. I'm just not sure exactly how they're supposed to work...

Is the thought that it works like an extra layer between the diaper and the cover, so that the pee has to make it through both the liner and the cover before a leak? ... Or ... do you put it in the diaper, against the baby, and it actually absorbs. And if that is the case, do you still lanolize them?

I feel kind of like a dunce, but figured that this was the best place to ask :)

I've heard two stories/opinions.

1.) They use the wool unlanolized as another absorbant layer. It absorbs better w/out the lanolin and acts as another layer between the actual dipe & cover.

2.) It is lanolized, and this forces the diaper to absorb more liquid. It is another barrier layer that will absorb if it gets super wet, but its absorbant qualities are reduced by the lanolin.

At least thats as near as I can tell from others posts.

Katie, what does this mean? girlfactory, may your thread never break... pass on the Wooly love!

I just now saw it, and I am pretty sure it's a good thing ;)

Oh, Terri! It's a combination of two things:

The Dreaded Username Function - where it inserts Your username into the sentence. For example: when I see it , it reads "Ravingcutie, may your ....."

And Pam posted this great article/poem/thingy about wishing other stitchers well; it said "May your thread never break." So, I thought it was great, and copied it.

BTW, this is totally OT, your soaker is in the mail. I thought I mailed it two weeks ago - you know when you send your DH to do an errand for you....I found it yesterday under my drying soakers on the front porch. AAAAAAAAAHhhhh!!!! I'm so sorry, I sent it right out with this super embarrassed note. Please forgive me!

Ok... so are knitted wool liners worth it? I have some wool scraps I was thinking of making liners with. Do you just do a simple rectangle for a liner?? And if you use them what do YOU personally do? What's your method... do you lanolize? Keep them unlanolized? What?

I hooked up a little rectangle earlier today, and I'm planning on sticking it in one of DS's FuzziBunz to see how it absorbs. I'll let everyone know how it works (or not ;) )

I'm also curious if people felt these or not? ... anyone here actually use wool liners? Maybe I should ask at MDC ... I know I've heard discussion of them somewhere...

Katie, please don't worry about it. I find packages that my kids have kicked underneath the couch, and also in dh's truck under the seat. It's just part of life. I WAS kinda wondering WTF was up with the mail though LOL. Thanks for letting me know.

Now about those wool liners........
I accidentally washed and dryed on HOT a liner that I got from Luxe Baby It totally fried it....it's now 4" long. So that's what NOT to do.
