View Full Version : Can I make a soaker where I kitchener the crotch together between the legs?

I've just finished a soaker where I kitchener together at the top of the legs smack dab in the middle of the front. While I can do a good job at the kitch (:banana) and it's not obvious, I'd like to see if I can come up with something where the kitch is in the middle of the crotch between the legs when it's worn. Then I could reinforce it.
Has anyone tried knitting the body in the round, then in essence dividing into a front and back, and knitting those "flaps" for the front and back with flat knitting? Then I'd be doing one flap at a time, decreasing at each end of the flap to make the leg holes.
Does this sound like it would work? Then I'd kitch the flaps together in the crotch area. :chin

You are desribing the Holy Sheep soaker pattern. :) (And others too, probably!)
Just curious though - why would you need to reinforce it? I haven't had a kitch area go weird on me yet, but maybe I have been lucky. ;)

Yes! My original pattern had the kitchner right between the legs. Now it is up a few rows higher, but it still falls somewhat between the legs. I don't think you would need to reinforce it either, because it functions the same as the rest of your knitted rows.

Julia was knitting with the LTK, she went to bed, LOL< but she was talking with me about how she wanted it right in the middle of the crotch instead of where it is in the LTK pattern

Actually I was using a free pattern.. The LTK one I was working on was the one I ripped out because of the short rows
But I know it isn't a truly original idea, I just wanted to know if it would work.. and I guess it will! I think I'll fiddle with it next time I cast on a soaker :D :banana
Thanks for the input ladies :mwah
ETA I want to reinforce it because I'm paranoid about my kitchener abilities :moon
