I'm looking for a pattern for a fall coat/heavy cardigan. Something that you can throw on to run errands, etc. All I have found so far are things that are too fitted for outerwear and patterns that are beyond my skill level. I'm up to the challenge of a cable or two, but aran patterns are out of my league :boggled Any suggestions?

If you go to www.lionbrand.com and click on knit patterns. Scroll down to adult patterns and click the Homespun Jacket and Hat (6th down in the Homespun section). It'll take you to another page, scroll down and it's under the baby in the stripes. I think it's super cute! :love

get your hands on an elizabeth zimmermann book and design your own ;) it's really not that hard when you are only writing one size, and her books walk you through it step by step. Rally, the key number is your chest circumference and then from there you take your gauge and plug it in to a few percentages of that chest # and Boom-Instant pattern!

theresa-
Is there one of EZ's books you would recommend over the others?

my fave is Knitting Around, cause there's intersting tidbits about ehr life interspersed with the knitting stuff (and I'm a sucker for personal histories, LOL) But, it also is laid out very well goes from very easy beginner stuff to the more technical *tough* stuff in a good way :)

That's the one I think I want to get next. I have Knitting W/out Tears and Knitter's Almanac. I just love the way that she wrote.

I think it would be really cool to go to one of the sweater camps up in WI that her daughter does now.

ohhh, I *so* want to do a camp with Meg Swansen. I actually had planned to do it the summer that Aj was born (of course, I had it planned before I got pregnant with him, LOL) He was born two weeks before the camp that year, so no go for me :sob

I told Dh that was going to be his 30th birthday gift to me, LOL! By then, Greg will be 3 and able to live without mama for a weekend :)

Maybe we should figure out how to make this be a Wooly Wonders gathering too. It would be cool to meet the ladies (and gentleman) IRL. (In a public place in case any of you are planning on becoming a knitting needle serial killer- as opposed to my usual line about ax murderer!)
