A friend of mine is expecting a baby and she does EC, so she needs easy on/off covers. I'm thinking the ribby wrap from LTK is probably the best for this, any other thoughts? or, is it not worth knitting any covers and just getting some BSWW or something? I don't want to ask her as I'd like it to retain some hint of surprise.. :)

I have no idea but the button ribby wrap sounds to me like a good idea. I wonder if any mamas over at DiaperSwappers.com forum would know more/have more ideas?

I could go look, do you have to register to view those forums? I guess I'll find out.

I would ask in the EC forum at MDC but my friend goes tehre too and I don't want her to see it :)

i would think the LTK hybrid soaker would be a better choice, or my soaker pattern, or anything with an elastic waistband - anything without a drawstring, essentially. from my experience, i think that buttoning and unbuttoning is not as easy on/off as a pull-on.

Oh, for some reason I was thinking the RIbby Wrap had velcro. Maybe I'll do a couple of styles. Glad to know that as long as it's easy to pull on/off it's reasonably good.

No buttons, no drawstrings. Trust me, you need to move pretty fast :) I agree with the Curly Purly idea. Or maybe just a simple triangle soaker?

I didn't have any soakers, I had a tunisian crochet pad and a two layer recycled sweater pad. Then I just put a prefold under baby and left them out in the open :sunshine

WHW wrap with snappi or velcro/aplix would be a quick on/off choice.

We're hardcore ec'ers. Currently we are ec'ing our 3rd child. While lots of people have different styles of ec'ing (some don't use diapers at all) what works for us is a fitted diaper with a soaker or soaker pants (longies) over it. Pam's Wooly Wonder patterns are the best! I only make them with encased elastic though using either the encasing method that LTK's uses or the No Strings Attached Waistband. I've used all different widths of elastic and have found that 1/4" elastic is sufficient for newborns and most older babies. When the baby is really crawling around you might want to use a thicker elastic on longies as there will be a lot of drag on them.

I can confidently say NO TIES! They take way too long and considering they will be off and on a million times a day it's super tedious. It's bad enough most baby "shirts" are really onsies...another EC no! no! :shake

The curly purly waistband looks super cool but stretches out way too fast for all the off and on that gets done.

One of the best gifts I could think of as an ec'er is a pair of newborn sized longies with a cute plain shirt to match.

My favorite yarn for soakers and pants is handpaintedyarn's 6 ply merino bulky.

I hope that helps!
Warmly,
Lynn
