Here is the pattern lifted from the other post

madeira scallop" on the bottom from knitting on the edge. The scallop is very easy: cast on 18 stitches (or multiples; I did 54). Row 1: there are three sets of stitches: 1) k1, k2tog 3 times; 2) yo, k1 5 times; and 3) yo, k2tog tbl 3 times (that is knit 2 together through back loops).

When I come up with the number of stitches for the pattern I get 20.....is my math off somewhere
in the sections you get: 1) 9 stitches used 2) 5 stitches 3) 6 stitches used....adds to twenty...Am I missing something here?

Since I decreased to get 54 I now afraid that this number may not work......

are you sure you repeat the k1 and yo? Not that it matters. that would be 17 sts

Pamela - on #1, I think you just k1 once and then k2tog 3 times. That would get the stitch count down to 18

But I haven't done the pattern, so I can't say for sure

I can't figure out why I can't find this pattern written up anywhere else. It is driving me a bit nuts.....b/c if I do what you suggest then when I get to the next row to do the scallop I have 20 stitches....

This is row one and rows 2-4 are knit....

Here's the 18 stitches --

k1, k2tog, k2tog, k2tog (7 stitches)
(yo, k1) 5 times (5 stitches)
yo, k2tog tbl, k2tog tbl, k2tog tbl (6 stitches)

Thank you so very much!!! Michelle had figured it out.

Now I just hope that it works for my pants....I may still have to play around a bit with needle size to get the look I want!!

i've not read carefully, but are you accounting for knit flat vs. knit round?

Well Karla did them on a pair of shorts and I just assumed she was working in the round...Good point....

Yep, the pattern is from nicky epstein's on the edge and it is for flat knit-- her original pattern says cast on 18 stitches + 1, the one is just to account for stitching the edges together, so you drop it when translating into the round.

But one reason why I did this pattern is because it is super easy to translate it to the round, because the WS rows are purl, which means that they are knit in the round.

Hey Karla, where ya been, vacation?

In jail.

Karla

[short explanation] I've been working with a woman in jail, waiting for trial on death penalty charges. A weensy bit intense.

Next week I'll be in jail in North Carolina (Raleigh Women's Prison). Really, I love my work, no matter how strange that may sound.
