Want to indulge into socks you say, come on in!!!
Any sock pattern, any yarn.
Let's encourage each other to knit a pair!! :sunshine

K, so what if I don't do a matching pair? Will that still count? I have two finished non-matching socks that need mates.
I started Pomatomus almost a full year ago:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/240/457144992_eedac9b6f5.jpg
And I need to finish my other pink Rollick sock. I finished this one back in July:

If I need a matching pair, I could be persuaded to start a new project. lol

Of course that counts, (and very beautiful I have to add) What better thing for this kal to get them done, and hey, it correlates with the stashgame! Hooray, a win-win situation!! :D

Hmmm...I'd better knit slow so they can count for stash game, too. lol

Patti, you crack me up!
I've drooled over that pomotomus in your projects forever, not realizing you hadn't completed the pair. Then you tell us that you knit a sock for a published pattern but it doesn't have a mate!
I'm not feeling so bad about my 3 single socks right now, because the oldest one was started December 1......
I'm doing the Sock a Week group on Ravelry, so I'm making myself finish at least two second socks a month. It's a rolling process to keep myself motivated.

Hehehe. I did finish a pair of Rollick Socks - but I gave them to Angelina. They were the ones done in Ochoco. I don't even have my pink sock right now. It's still in Texas and might be going on a road trip. Not very motivating to finish the second sock. Not that I would have finished it anyways....Heck, I just finished my first Reptilian Lace sock last night and now I've moved on to other projects. I'm bad.

I'm working on my a swap sock, still kind of unsure if I'm sticking with the current pattern, I kind of leaning towards just making my 3rd pair of Perambulates or Hedera, so hard to choose!
Anyways, here are pics of my Monkey thats been in progress for a little while I've worked on Christmas gifts in between and a couple more pairs of socks, so now its sorta out in limbo:

I want to try, but I'm scared! I've done worsted weight socks, but never tiny needle ones. Also don't *have* tiny needles yet!
I have $30 to Little Knits, can somebody please help me pick a yarn from these - I have no idea what's best for a beginner/nice yarn. Or tell me which ones to avoid. Many thanks! :)

Patti - both of those are gorgeous colors - what yarns are they?
I bought stuff to make a lightbox at Lowe's today - I'm thinking I'll bribe dh into maybe helping me make it after dinner! If not I'll make it by myself after the kiddos finish school tomorrow and then I'll photo all my sock yarn and upload to flickr then I'll come here and beg everyone to help me pick a yarn and pattern for my first pair of socks out of sock yarn!
edited to ask - is there another stash game going on right now?

OK - I guess I'll have to finish my other Perambulate. Here's #1. I also have two friends with spring birthdays who have specifically asked me to make socks for them. Not to mention DH who has yet to receive a pr of socks....

I like Trekking XXL and Regia.
Do you typically like Noro? I think if you do, you will like it. But if you aren't a fan of Noro, you most likely won't. I've heard it isn't very soft like most sock yarns - but does soften up with washing.
There is a $25 minimum order at Little Knits, which is why I didn't get the 188 there. lol

Susan, I think Cherry Tree hill supersock is a good one. I've tried TOFUsies and hated it, Trekking as well, they are really thin, not such a great start.
That and either dpns or some circs, ;)
I'd try that and there are so many patterns to choose from for socks, you can either purchase or for free. :)
Patti's are the oh so wonderful Bambewe, from Zen String. :) I love it!
Beautiful Perambulate, Mara!

They are both Zen String Bambewe. The Pomatomus was a club shipment - colorway is Truffle. The pink Rollick is Chocolat Cherise.

Ok, I've CO for Perambulate #3 tonight, these won't be for me (only one pair has so far, lol)
I'm using Crystal Palace Panda Cotton. I'm not quite sure I like this yarn either. As per swap rules, it has to be in yarn purchased from the Loopy Ewe, that being said, this is what I had left in my stash from that particular store.
Here's my shot of it, Fuchsia:

I'm knitting with the Noro Kureyon sock, and it is scratchy, kinda clingy, you need to be careful with tangles. I was about ready to throw it out the window till I had Patti's encouragement to trudge on through it!

Well, I have 2 pairs of socks in progress:
-Padded Footlets for my MIL's bday (it was Dec. 30th...whoops!). I'm on the instep of the 2nd sock, so really close!
-KPS easy children's socks for my ds - he picked out the yarn himself in the summer - I've only gotten slightly past the cuff on the first one on those.
I also have Perambulate on ZS Harmony in my queue...

Yup, that's the one...although I'm not actually doing the "padded" part. :blush I thought that sounded like too much work, and since this is for MIL who lives in Oz, I didn't want too much sock, KWIM, since it gets so hot. That's why I picked a cotton blend sock yarn...It was kinda confusing trying to figure out which part of the pattern to skip, but I've got it now! :) Here's the first one finished (on my foot): http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2163/2072456180_3412ca2a97.jpg

I finally decided to try socks, my first attempt was probibly a bit ambitious but I tried the Firestarter pattern. LOVED the first sock! It flew by in a jiffy once I got the hang of the pattern. Sadly it was too big, so I frogged the thing :cry
Re-knit it and it fits perfectly, but I am drained from the experience of knitting 2 of my first socks and only having 1 to show for it. Gah
hopefully the stash game gets me going again. next time I am trying a simple ribbing and sport weight :lol

Personally, I don't like self striping yarns with patterns of this type. I think they look better as Jaywalkers (http://magknits.com/Sept05/patterns/jaywalker.htm) or Marigold (http://magknits.com/Sept05/patterns/jaywalker.htm). I really don't mind you buying the pattern, though! lol We can find a good yarn for that, too!

I think a basic ribbed sock would look great with the first one - or either of the ones I mentioned above to Jessica.
For the second one, I'd do a plain stockinette sock. It'll look better since that yarn is self-patterning.

Isnt it awesome!! That is Sharon's Adorn sock, in her Nora colorway :)
Hmm is it normal that Perambulates seem biiig? I cast on for a large womens size using the same size sock-needles I always use. And Zen String yarn (dont remember which kind, but it was from the recent sock-club - called Reflection). Now I knit the first 8 rows and it seems HUGE (and I am not a particularly loose knitter).. Can it really be that I must go down a size - or are they supposed to be big? I dont get how 60 stitches can suddenly be that wide on 2,5 mms??
Not a good start to get back into sockknitting.. sigh..
Susan: Those look like good choices :)

my first pair are from Lisa Souza sock yarn and they are bit big. I knit a second pair out of another sock yarn - sorry don't remember the brand...and they are a perfect fit......(a bit heavier wt.)
I don't remember what size needles I used...but I typically knit socks on a 0 or 1...I am thinking I did those on 1s.

Contest or no contest...I will knit you some socks Pamela......
How's your gauge?
 Ehh I kind of had a feeling that not swatcing would come back and hit me in the head when posting a question like that :hide:
I just figured that when working on 2,5 mms then 7 sts to the inch is usually the largest gauge I get and quite often I am more like 8-8,5.. but most of the sockyarn I have used so far has been thinner than the Zen String so..
I dont think I will bother with swatching, as usually the gauge I get when knitting flat doesnt match what I get with DPNs in the round.. I will try a few rounds on 2 mms to see if that changes size dramatically, then decide whether to frog and caston 50 sts or to start over with 60 sts om 2mms..
ETA: Lazy little me decided to do a tiny swatch on 2mms and huge was my surprise to see I get gauge :nut I will continue in pattern using the 2mms. They are the thinnest needles I have anyway..

I hadn't heard that. I heard lots of people saying they machine washed and dried and that they were fine. Hmmm...
Yeah, there is a thread about it in the loopygroupie board. I haven't started mine yet, so I can't comment with first hand knowledge.

Hooray!
Arrrgg I'm a dork!
Soo I didnt get gauge after all.. I end up on 7 sts pr inch nomatter how I go around it. And that will make my socks too big by around 2 cms circumference if my calculations are right. I frogged the Zen String, grabbed a skein of Posh yarn instead and I SWATCHED!! (not in the round - ehh but a swatch it is) - and still end up on 7 sts.. hrmpf..
Now what to do..
Options seem to be
A: Grab a skein of thinner sockyarn
B: Knit the smaller size on the 2,5 mms (dont know that gauge yet though.. would have to check - maybe I could get away with knitting them on the 2 mms?)
C: Cast on 55 sts and hope for the best
Any other options I forgot?
What cha think?

I'd try the medium size and see how it goes. They are very stretchy.

I'm doing Jaywalker on some Trekking XXL I got in a swap and I got gauge! Woo-Hoo!!!
Im hopeless :shake Cast on 55 sts, knit a few rounds. Too big. Frogged. Will try for the small or leave project to rest and be knit in thinner yarn.. After working in Adorn sock and some other really thin yarns, then Zen String and Posh seem like rope in comparison :pezfrog
dandelions2

The Adorn might work for you perfect then. I made a pair of Perambulates with Adorn and wanted the medium size, so I used the size large from the pattern because it works up at a smaller gauge. But since you seem to knit looser than I do, it should work up perfectly for you. :)
Where did everyone go? Can we see some socks in progress?
Here I ripped my perambulate last night for the bazillionth time and... cast on a large after all. :hide:  Both the small and the medium turned out to fit nicely around my leg but I couldnt get my heel through them.. The yarn is getting a bit tired and so am I, so if this doesnt work I take it as a sign that now is not the time to knit those..
But apart from all the problems with getting the size right then I am in loooove with my zen string reflection. It is soo darn beautiful, and it seems to fit the pattern perfectly. And the pattern is so simple and beautiful, I love it! You're really talented Patti :D
ETA: Oh and one thing that has come of all this ripping and reknitting (I think I have knit and reknit the cuff 5 times now  ) is the realisation to never judge size by eye and intuition alone. TRY IT ON before you rip...

Ugh.
I was at the doctor yesterday. I've been having swelling in my hands for about two months now. I can't wear my wedding ring anymore. She said to lay off the computer and knitting for a full week and then if it hasn't gone down, to come in for xrays.
Seriously??? WTH am I supposed to do for fun? :(
I guess I could finish reading the last two books of the Harry Potter series.

Well, to add to the general "ugh" of the last few posts... :irked I discovered a mistake in the lace portion of my 2nd padded footlet - I must have read the wrong line of the chart (even though I use a sticky note to "underline" the row), and I put 1 yo in the wrong place. :bang I must've done it at my SnB a few weeks ago (talking + lace = mistakes!!). I only noticed it last night - it's about 20 rows back!! I honestly don't think I can bring myself to frog, but it is right on the top of the instep...anyone have any tips on how to fix lace knitting mistakes by laddering down, etc?? I'm a little worried about keeping track of the yo's, k2togs, etc... :nut

Well here's my gripe ... I need to figure out the chart for the Firestarter socks that I am making for myself.
And I NEVER knit socks on 3s, but I am with this pattern because it is a 7-8 foot size, and dude .. I wear a 10, sometimes an 11.
Pam ... I would knit you some socks. But I only do one and then I get bored and move on to the next sock. I could knit you a whole bunch of one socks with different yarns and different patterns. ;)

finished a pair of socks. this is actually my first sock ever, several years ago. finally frogged (knit too tightly so i could barely get my foot inside) and reknit with a mate. i absolutely positively have to do 2 socks at once. or i never do the second one.
i put a cable up the back of these to keep myself amused, but i needed to keep it plain because i knit them in class and can't exactly follow a chart surreptitiously.
the yarn is something i bought in italy years ago. dyed myself. already wore a hole in the bottom of both socks, so i had to darn them with some purple sock yarn with a high nylon content. these are actually knee-highs, they took forever and when i wore the sole out so quickly i thought i would cry.

This yarn is unbelieveable! Totally worth the craze, lol! It is somewhat similar to the feel of Socks that Rock lightweight, (kinda cottony?) but not? I've heard once washed, it blooms heavenly as well. Cannot wait for that.
