I've used brown sheep lamb's pride (85% wool, 15% mohair) for non-soaker sutff and loved the weight, colors, and softness. I'm wondering about shedding for soakers, though.
anyone use any of the other brown sheep yarns? like the bulky superwash for example? I love bulky yarns.

the mohair sheds like you wouldn't believe in soakers. I was picking clumps of hair off AJ's privates for DAYS after he'd wear the one I made him ages ago.

I have not had any major problems with shedding from the Lamb's Pride. It sheds most while it's being knit, but not noticeably when in use. And I have a wool liner made from it that I even put INSIDE his night time diaper. So I haven't had any trouble with shedding, and if you use a fitted diaper, I have a hard time getting how it would get underneath a well fitting diaper anyway. The lamb's pride works beautifully as a wool liner (this is how I test my wool for possible soaker use), and I'm using it for soaker pants in progress at the moment.
I'd go ahead and give it a try. It knits up beautifully and is inexpensive. I love the softness and the slight variations in thickness/thinness.

I just finished one for Eli... I think it's the first one on the first page of my gallery. http://woolywonder.com/gallery/gallery1.html Yes, there were fuzzies! It's new so we'll see how it goes. :D xo pam

Karla, I have knit with it before and love it. i didn't notice a lot of shedding but then i wasn't looking for that. I used it to make baby blocks, and the colors are fantastic.
I also have made liners out of this wool, but not for my own use: the shedding never occured to me until recently. I do have a soaker I bought second hand that I LOVE and suspect is made from the lamb's pride, and I do get bits of colored fluff on her butt - UNDER the fitted. I don't know how it happens. It's just a little and not a big deal to me, but I wonder if it would be a big deal to someone else.
I think i'll take your advice and go for it and see if i get any complaints :) I'm not selling commercially, anyway.

My son sometimes gets fuzzies from the edges of his soakers inside his diaper via the legs. I think the edges of the legholes rub on his legs, and then the fuzzies are on the skin and just sort of migrate in. I haven't used Lamb's Pride for a soaker, but I do have some I was going to try. Maybe I'll make someone a hat with it instead.

Marnie -
Which congo? If it's the one we keep talking about in the WAHM forum, we're kicking around the idea of stocking knitted items, not exclusively soakers. There's a long thread in Wham-a-rama if you're interested.
