I'd really like to start treating myself to cloth now that I have dd moved into full time :) I hate, hate, hate wearing disposable pads and I'm not a huge fan of tampons either. I already have the diva cup but there are days that I just feel too crampy and bloated to think about using it and would love to have a soft cushy pad as an alternative.
I'm looking for something readily available and competitively priced. Extra points for that which is available in Canada! :pink I don't really have any preferences for the construction of the pad although I think I'd like wings.
I've been looking into Luna Pads package deals - any advice there??

Sure, Danica, I'm "interested"...I'm a very beginner sewer so I'd take a look at it but it's also likely that I'd never really get around to it....If you don't mind passing the link I'll check it out and see if I can get motivated! :)

I like this one, but I don't use pul.

Mine are all recycled materials...receiving blankets, tshirts, diaper stuff ya know? I use fleece as the waterproof layer and aplix cut in circles instead of snaps.
LMK if you need any help if you decide to make some :pink

i love love love mine from http://www.snoogiesnaps.com especially the post-partum shorts which i wear with the super pads as pjs overnight.
super cuddly.
I do recommend fleece topped pads, personally. I use both the fleece and wool holder and love them both.
i don't know what she's got in stock but she's quick with the custom orders and also stocks fairly regularly.

Okay, another question - do you definitely recommend pads with some sort of wings?? I've heard two sides of this story - one is that wings add bulk and wick moisture onto clothing as well as the snaps being uncomfortable but others say without wings you're sunk because that pad will not stay in place.
Whaddya think?

I would be happy to make some for you. Those snoogiesnaps ones look really good, too, and very reasonably priced!

i had some wingless but i found them to be kind of useless for me because they bunch up and shift around. lots of people have had good luck, though.
The wings don't bother me at all. I have some that are wool interlock and extremely trim. a good-fitting holder doesn't add bulk at all. a bad-fitting holder makes all kind of problems, though.

How many do I need for postpartum?
I want to start stocking up. I would like to do laundry every other day.
Marnie-tell me about these snoogie shorts. Do you wash the shorts everytime you wear them or just the snap in pad? I really like the concept, but could never afford multiple pairs of the pants and shorts.
Thanks!

:lurk
I need to buy some, too, and can't make up my mind. I am thinking no PUL cause it seems like it would make things damp and icky. But that is the extent of my decisions, LOL.

I just made myself some using Kristin's Pads pattern. I made them with hemp instead of flannel and at the moment am just using the holders without any inserts. I may make a couple inserts, though. My previous attempts were just with scraps and didn't have wings. Using a pattern and doing wings is definitely much better. Without the wings I always had to worry about my underwear staying on tight enough so the pad wouldn't get out of place or fall out (ugh!). The wings don't feel any bulkier than the other ones, and they stay in place so well.
As for how many, they say you need about a dozen, give or take, for a normal cycle. I'm thinking for postpartum, a dozen large pads is what I'll have ready to go.

The more I look the more I think I will probably at least try making my own. If I fail miserably then I'll order some! :lol

Those mamas are [highlight=darkorchid:671232d942]really[/highlight:671232d942] nice...I get a lot of cding stuff from them. And they really helped out when I couldn't get rid of ds's rashes...
I like the look of their mama pads too :)

RE:snoogie shorts--I have a pair and unless they get soiled I just keep reusing them and snapping a new pad in just like i would a fleece diaper cover. I absolutely ADORE her pp shorts and pads.
Freshies! I have so say are my most of all favorite pad, so worth the extra expense as kendall pays a lot of attention to detail, her pads are nice and contoured, thin yet very absorbant. They just RAWK my cloth world LOL
Other than these and the ones I make I haven't really ventured to other cloth pads. I have tried ones called Crimson Curse catchers but they didn't really catch me and i also tried ones that are now being sold onjacks magic beanstalk but for the life of me (preggo brain) i cant recall the makers of either of these which is really bad since I know the one who makes the CCC's!!

LunaPads are not worth the money, IME. They shrink *really* bad and the construction is not great - a strip of rick-rack does NOT hold the insert in, people!
I absolutely ADORE Freshies! and Kendell is a big sweetheart. She really knows what she's doing with the mama cloth. I love her fleece shells and then you can just snap a hemp pad on top or I even have one that's velour lined. They hardly shrink and still work great after beign washed, and are really incredibly well sewn. :pink

if you check out www.shopubb.com/?pamela
you will find the glad rags are on clearance. I don't know what the company has left - or even how the prices compair with other stuff...but thought I would toss that out there for you all. I have a bunch of diaper flannel that I really should get out and make some pads with it for myself.
I have the diva but don't always want to deal with it. (Always fun when I am trying to dump it and clean it when the kids wander into the bathroom!)
ITA about lunapads - rubbish and I spend a lot of money on them too. I used the new conceptions pattern to make my own with hemp/fleece/pul but then cut all the fleece off because it was too sweaty and added flannel instead - don't find that with the pul though. I made them longer for pp and added an extra layer and made about 12. plus the same no of regular and mini

Wow! That is exactly what I did (minus the fleece part - I got a heads up on that one). :) I find that sherpa also works good as an absorbant layer.

Don't know if you're still interested but these are similar to the new conceptions pattern but ready made - they have wool too.
