someone on another forum is having problems with their woolies and the only thing I could think of it being is woolwash build up but wanted to see if anyone else had any other ideas.

i am having some issues with my son's longies. they work great - no wetness at all, but they lately they stink after each wear. when i started using them i could go ages without having to wash or re-lanolise.

Its only happening with her son (almost 3) not her DD who is younger. Its happening with knitted shorts (using basic 100% wool from the craft store) and also a recycled sweater soaker.

she is rinsing after washing them in a eucalytus wash but maybe not enough? Its strange its only happening with her DS though who only wears them at night over a boosted bamboo nappy which isn't wet through by morning.:scratchc:

She could try stripping the pants by washing them with dishwashing detergent, like Dawn. (Do they sell that there? :))

Let them air dry outside in the sunshine, and then rewash with wool wash and lanolize them.

I would do what Irishbaby said.

Thanks, I've passed that on and will let you know how she goes. Do you think the type of yarn might be making it more prone to needing a strip wash? I've never had to strip wash any of uor woolies.

It could be, particularly if it was a heavily processed yarn (like most that are commercially available), as opposed to a minimally processed yarn. A heavily processed wool would lose a lot of its antimicrobial properties. Over lanolizing could also be the culprit.

Let us know if she solves the problem!

is it possible that the DS has a yeast infection, or UTI? I knwo when Gregory had a UTI, his woolies got stinky! I had to wash them in castille soap with lots and lots of rinses.
