And it has to do with the heel flap.
I am knitting childrens socks this week for a friends kids, and have encountered a problem.
When I knit the heel flap I do it in plain stockinette- no special reinforcement or slipped stitches. I do flip the first stitch on each row though so I can pick up a stitch in those later.
But when I pick up stitches along the heel flap and knit the foot of the sock, then it looks like I picked up too few stitches. Look how the heel is longer and how the knit stitches that I picked up pulls on together?

I am guessing that if you work some sort of slip-stitch heel flap then the row gauge will be higher than in plain stockinette, so it would be appropriate to pick up one stitch pr 2 rows the way it is done when you slip the first stitch of each heel flap row.
But if the row gauge of a plain stockinette heel flap is smaller (fever rows pr inch) then I would need to pick up more stitches per heel flap row? Or am I getting this wrong?
In that case how many stitches should I pick up pr heel flap row ?
Or is the only problem that I need to block the sock?
I hope that all made sense :nut :nut :nut
