I am knitting up the halloween pants for dd. I am not really crazy about how the color way is working out.
So, take a look please and let me know if you would go back. I am thinking about reducing the number of rows in the all orang section

They knit really fast so I don't mind frogging - if I can improve the look.
I am alternating orange and varigated in the body and legs. The black is a different yarn and the "hand" and gauge are "off" for me. (Fine for the cuffs and waistband but I don't want to chance it in the body.)

How about thinner stripes? Would that make it better?
FWIW, I don't think they look bad - are they just turning out differently than you envisioned?

It is just A LOT of orange. I think I am going to tear it out and work with shorter sections of the color. I thought with the varigated that I would end up with more black - as I have longer runs of the black color in the varigated.
I was doing a "random" striping that isn't random.....like the tulip socks at Knitty.com.
I am also wondering what it is going to work up like when I get to the legs....Guess I better get to it if I want to find out~!

I know how that goes. I was looking at your vari ball & thinkinh the black would show more, too. Just goes to show you that knitting is an adventure!
You could cut your orange rows in half - hopefully the black would show more, then.

Well the other piece of this "puzzle" is that I have limited yarn supply in the varigated so I have to be sure that I don't use it all up too fast.

If you are planning on embellishments, you could embellish on the orange sections, and then you would want them to be wider...
I think it looks neat!

I like it...
I'm picturing a long sleeve black tee with an orange pumpkin face on it...
Maybe orange felt, with some iron-on fusing for a no-fuss outfit... Wouldn't that be adorable??
So, no, I wouldn't frog, but I hate frogging... so I'm biased ;)

I already frogged it and I am regretting it. The pattern is now coming out different and I am NOT happy with it either. (It is really obvious that the orange in teh varigated is less bright....)
I will keep knitting for a bit and see if I come to like it better....It is striping more now rather than "pooling" a bit. Of course i also know that when I go to do the legs it will be totally different....SO I guess I should just commit to what I have going now. I somehow think I could rework it forever and keep trying to get it better....And then I would have to rework the sizing as it would have to be for the halloween after this one! LOL

You can still do the cool shirt. Lets see the striping??
Could you do a black leg and an orange leg??? It's going to be adorable, just knit with the flow ;)

I will try and post a picture tomorrow. I am to the crotch shaping...and liking the way it is turning out a bit more.
Beth- you may have missed it but my black is a different yarn and the gauge is slightly different. It is a lopi and I think it knits up "furry" too. I thought about the leg thing myself. I am just going to keep going with my orange and varigated. If I run out with them too short then the bottoms will be orange with black cuffs rather than alternating with the varigated.
