Ok a customer has requested a colorway that I cannot replicate using Manos pre-dyed. So I am buying some natural and need to dye it myself. :help

I am not good at it, so help me out! I need a bright yellow (mostly this color) and some brown orange and a deep indigo blue. Best way to do this???

Thank YOU!!

If you need bright, you're best bet is NOT ka for the yellow and blue. Orange ka does great if you use enough packets. I get a fantastic bright orange. You could then tea stain over it to dull it down or paint on brown very lightly. Easiest, imo, is food coloring or wilton's (same thing). I know some of the mamas use dharma dyes, but I'm afraid of them :bag . Or, you can send it in to be dyed ;) And, I'm sure you know, make sure you dye enough because you would be hard pressed to match it. Is this gonna be striped or varigated? I hth some!

Acid dyes are best forr bright colors & work exactly the same way as food coloring! No bag heading needed!

You can get a good bright yellow W/ wiltons, but you'll never get a good indigo - blue & purple always seem to separate!

hbak,

ok it sounds like i should just go for the dharma dyes. now, they are going to be variegated--what is the best way to apply the dye? dropper? do you use a brush?

ty for the help so far!

I'm not much help, but I got a BEAUTIFUL yellow with the orange juice version of crystal light powder. It's the prettiest yellow I've ever seen :)
I just dyed some "candy corn" yarn.. yellow white and orange.. turned out perfect.

I use WashFast dyes from Mohairwig_com from ebay (but she has a separate site) and her dyes are cheaper than Dharma. I get all my stuff from her, she's fast and very friendly. Here's her link: http://mohairwig.com/washfastaciddye.html

I use a ketchup bottle (like the ones you see at picnics w/the pointy top) and droppers, and a measuring cup, and anything else that's handy to dye. :)

I'd second the not using Wiltons, it has a tendency to separate w/purple...but yellow is nice. :) But I still like my WashFast from Sue...

Hugs,
tammy
