I love using the crock pot for dyeing. The yarn is very soft afterwards.

The microwave is great, too, b/c it's so fast.

I have used a steamer on the stove. Works pretty good, too. Microwave is also another method I use. Nothing too exciting, really.

Count me as a slow cooker fan. I like that I can wander off and not worry that it will burn or get too hot. I think it depends on the dye how fast it "takes".

Steamer, cookpot, oven even. Or with sunlight in a ziplock bag, but over here there isnt that much sun anymore. Works great for paint-ons though. My microwave hates me and I hate it right back!

Should there be a methods tutorial or sticky or something?

My fav method is stove top. I do it the least often, but it is the most fun because you can see the dye "disappear" I do it least often because it is harder to control. But it always comes out okay.

The method I do the most is painting then into the microwave. I find this the most annoying method, just from all the prep and clean up.

The easist is the crock pot. you can leave it all day.. but for some reason, I've had a problem withh saturation. I get some white areas while dyeing.

They all work though... If you want something very specific, I would use the painting method, then steam or micro it

The methods are pretty similiar. Glug of vinegar in water, dye, then add yarn. Heat over stove, in steamer or in microwave! I'll see what i can dig up. I used to have a good link!

Hi,

New to the forum and to dyeing - my first attempt was today but I had to share, hopefully this link will work

Have a flick through the album. Just linked to another album instead of the first one which didn't work. :crud:

http://photobox.tiscali.co.uk/album/913757

this one really will work.

In my very inexperienced opinion I preferred using the hob to the microwave - the colours seem to be more intense.

cheers,

It won't let me in - it wants a password.

What's a hob? :chin

I found it really helps to get the wool good and soaking wet all the way through before attempting to dye it. I have gotten better saturation that way.
