I was a dye-aholic today :devil I dyed a skein of cascade eco (from jessica! :D) in a rainbow, a red/orange/yellow that was supposed to be a duplicate of a skein I did last week but the red turned out pink ( :emb ), and my paton's overdye experiment.

I happen to like the way the rainbow turned out :pink. The overdye isn't too bad either - it's that bright red paton's classic merino that I haphazardly dunked in a half-exhausted bath of berry blue kool aid (leftover from dyeing the blue on my rainbow skein). Kinda cool! It sort of has the effect of Jessica's black cherry, though not up to that par, obviously. But I'm pleased with it. It should look kinda neat.

Without further adieu...

I was totally :juggle today, as this all took me a couple of hours and DH works weekends so it was kind of hard to work on the stove and watch the baby at the same time :LOL

ETA mind not the fat spoiled beagle on her throne under the unused crib :moon

Pretty! Youa re so good at dyeing! I leave that to you and the pros LOL. Do you mind sharing what flavors you used for the rainbow? If not, that's okay. :)

Can't wait to see those knit up!

Yeah, the Paton's is really soft until you dye it  it can get crunchy. I need to try lanolizing, that might help, but the green/blue pair I made is still kinda crunchy.

The rainbow will be pants and maybe a sweater if I can swing it with those 8 oz. :brow

Why wouldn't I share with my fellow yarn/dye/knit-aholics?! :pink :sheep :wool

The red is cherry kool aid and red food coloring. The yellow is just yellow food coloring - the kool aid/generic lemonade mix didn't get bright enough for me. The green is a mixture of the leftover yellow food coloring and 1 packet ice blue raspberry lemonade and some blue food coloring. The blue is blue berry kool aid (like 8 packets). The purple is... gosh I don't know, I mixed and mixed and mixed to get a good purple (still not too pleased with it). I think it was mostly the leftover cherry kool aid, a packet of berry blue and some blue food coloring. The orange was all kool aid (orange, obviousy :D).

Ah someone else who keeps her dyeing a highly scientific process.....adding color and KA until it looks right.

I could never replicate a dye job b/c I can never remember exactly what I did to get a particular color.

These are lovely and I can't wait to see them knit up.
