This is just one color. They have a lot of nice colors, but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of/ used this seller before. No negatives at all.

:) I was wondering the same thing. Doesn't merino wool pill? I have heard some people saying it does. :knit

yes... I have heard the same thing myself. But I thought I might give it a whirl.

Morwenna... if you read this, don't you use merino?

Oooh that's purty! I'd love to hear how it knits up for soakers.

I have unwittingly used merino in a soaker. It pretty much lost its shape...so really really tighten the waistband (like use really teeny needles or really decrease the number of stitches). The waistband on my soaker is so so so stretched out. However, it is super soft and I didn't have any problems with pilling.

The manos uruguay yarn that I like to use and talk about excessively is half merino, half corriedale (which is a sheep that is half merino, half something else, maybe lincoln?). The soaker gets heavy night use at our house, and it gets fuzzy (no PJ's worn over it) but doesn't pill. It has held its shape up beautifully as well.

A blend of yarn types including merino might work better than just plain merino itself. But I also suspect that the quality of the wool fleece and the spinning to make the wool might have more to do with how well it wears than whether it is "merino" or any other kind of wool.

i'm not a fan of merino at all - neither to knit or to use as a soaker on my kid. Blends are fine, generally. love that manos de uruguay.

How much yarn does it take you to knit a soaker from this?

All I use is an untreated merino from a small families farm on the praries.
I have great success with it, and my ds has such sensitive skin that softness is my main concern first and foremost.
However I don't have a problem with it stretching out at all.
Maybe because I use small needles?

Ooops, sorry I didn't see this before! I have used that very yarn for a few projects. It's lovely but EXTREMELY fuzzy. It also has a wide variation in the thickness of the yarn--some places it's VERY skinny. It is lovely and soft though! The NZ merino that I use is super soft and dyes wonderfully. The only bad thing is the pilling, again. Not quite as bad as the eBay stuff, but still.....felts rather easily too. I like it for newborn or smaller baby's soakers as it would get less wear from a non-mobile child.

Thanks, Morwenna. I haven't ordered anything from them.... I don't know if I will or not... but if someone does, let me know what you think.

I am still trying to find that *dream* yarn.... you know the soft stuff. I LOVE Barlett but not everyone likes it.

:) Has anyone used alpaca yarn for soakers? I have some off white I would like to use-it is thin. I was thinking maybe combining it with a strand of wool.

The use of alpaca has been discussed frequently on the yahoo Wool Soaker Group. These are the things I remember- having not tried the stuff..

it doesn't have any lanolin in it
it is drapey and won't hold its shape well.

i LOVE the merino wool jess sells. that is pretty much all i sell and all i use for my own soakers. i haven't noticed an increase in shaping stretching out, or pilliness or fuzziness. i am looking for a soft non merino wool that is not outrageously expensive and man it is hard to find!!!!!

I have some up for sale on my site right now... 2 ply merino... I had a customer contact me about it so she could have some pants knit out of it, but I don't think I will have enough in just the one skein. If I don't sell it, I think I will use it for Pam's upcoming Chunky Wonder class.

i have used alpaca for soakers and the feedback i have received is that it sheds terribly and stretches beyond belief. i loved knitting with it, but i think it's not cut out for soakers.

I will probably use it.... I just need to get some orders done in the meantime, and then I will pull it if it hasn't sold.
