I cloth diaper at home, and usde disposables when I'm out running errands. But I'm considering trying to use cloth out side the house because she does have some diaper rash that is not going away.

Ok... i'm putting up my money. I need advice and tips from die hard CD momma's! How do you deal with the wet cloth diapers when your out? Better yet, how do you deal with poopy cloth diapers when your out of the house? Do you have to carry some gigantic diaper bag to carry all of you diapers, covers, dirty diaper bags, etc? What do you use?

I have a small bummis bag that I carry, I can stuff a good amount of wet/poopies in there. Basically, remove wet diaper. Fold and place in bag. If it's poopy, I'll dump in toilet if handy, otherwise I just wrap it up and put it in my bag to be dealt with later.
Alternatively, you can knit your own wetbag to take...

Yep. I have a square wetbag. About 16"x16". It zips on top. I don't usually go places where I need to change lots of diapers before getting back to the car. Most times I keep the wetbag in the van and change there, too. Of course, my son is almost 2, so he doesn't go as often as a younger babe would.

I have a rather large diaper bag but only because I am always overly prepared. I usually take 4 fitteds with me, 1 large wet bag (probably 15 x 15), some toys, some snacks, something to drink for me, I use a plastic Huggies wipe container and put cloth wipes in it, a regular prefold / burp rag, plus all of my stuff (wallet, check book, appointment book, keys, chap stock, etc etc etc,). I could easily get away with 2 fitteds, the wet bag, wipes, and my wallet if I don't want to carry a lot. I don't bring any extra covers because my son is a pretty light wetter and it usually doesn't even get wet.
When my son was a newborn up until he was about a month I used sposies while out. But then I thought "why waste the money on sposies when I could just use cloth". So I did. I later switched to cloth wipes because I kept forgetting to NOT throw them in the diaper pail, ewww. But really you wouldn't need to carry much more than you would if you were using sposies. You may need a slightly larger diaper bag but not by much. You could also just keep 1 diaper with you and put 2 extra in the car incase you are out longer than expected.
I would definitly give it a try, I promise it isn't that bad. I just put the dirty diapers in the zippered wet bag and they don't smell or anything. It really is worth it. :) Instead of my diaper bag getting lighter as the day goes on, it stays the same.
Good luck!

I carry a fairly large diaper bag, but I always carry around more than I end up needing.
I bring a wet bag, diapers, wipes, a cover or two, some wipe solution, hand sanitizer, and sometimes extra clothes. Carrying the dirties around isn't a big deal, but I never used sposies, so I never experienced anything else.

It's really no big deal. :) Just get a good wetbag (Happy Tushies makes really nifty ones w/ zippers and everything) for the dirties. I usually carry 1 or 2 extra dipes (I like to take AIO's so I don't have to fumble around w/ covers... Bumkins are my fav for the diaper bag), a wet bag, a few dry wipes that I get wet from a sink or my drinking water bottle (I usually always carry water) and that's it! My kids hardly ever pooped while out, but when they did I just stuck it in the wet bag. Or you could get a gallon sized ziploc bag for poopies.

i have a small tote from bummis that i carry for wet/poopy diapers. it works really well. never had a mess while using it.
i do use disposable wipes hen out and about, though, because i haven't found a way to carry a spray bottle that doesn't leak all over everything in the diaper bag yet.
i use liners when i'm on a long day trip (zoo, etc.) so i can just toss/flush poop.

I have a bummis wet bag for the wet/poopy dipes, a ziploc baggy with pre wetted cloth wipes (no need to find a water source ;) ), 3 dipes and covers for the baby and 1 aio for the toddler. It honestly is not hard to do cloth on the go...you just do it :pink
I say go for it! And for her poor bum, there is a fantastic pure herbal cream by a company called Kettle Care out of Montana. It's called 3 C's Sensitive Care Cream (calendula, camomile, & carrot seed). It works great and smells wonderful.

I have two in cloth didys so I put the cloth for the day in a big bag in the trunk area with a few in the diaper bag I have a big wet bag in the trunk also and a few grocery plastic bags in the diaper bag. I go swap out didys and snacks and such after about 3 - 4 hrs. NO problem really.
I keep a few extra dipes in the car.
And I carry a smallish bag with a small wetbag (I want to do the knitted one!), 2 dipes and go for it. But I have back up in the car. I put the dirties in the wetbag. Nothing to it!
Good luck! :pink
