One of the wonderful mamas on the diaperpin forums suggested knitting 40 premie hats in 40 days for lent and donating them to some local hospitals.

I am not very religious but thought that was a great idea even if you don't celabrate lent you would still feel wonderful making some tiny hats for tiny babies.:sunshine

I am going to try to do this even with all of my other projects and use it as an excuse to practice some new stitches and practice my crochet too.
Thanks

I don't celebrate lent (not even really sure what it is) but that's a great idea! What pattern are you using? Preemie would be a good size to use up those leftovers!! :D

I am not sure which pattern I will use yet I probably will try a few different ones http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/preemies.php has a bunch of patterns for premie hats
Check with your hospital because some only take 100% acrylic due to allergies and cotton stretches out of shape.
My local hospital takes any kind of yarn and needs premie through infant size hats and blankets 10" square and bigger.

what a great idea. I can no WAY do 40 hats in 40 days, but I will make what I can between now and whenever lent ends :scratchc: (when DOES lent end? I'm jewish!) and donate them. What a nice way to connect with local families in crisis!

Lent ends on Easter.....which I think coincides with passover (though it may not always ---b/c of the calendar)

I have been crochetting (a couple are knitted) a bunch of them (a pattern from bevscountrycottage) and they are taking less than a half an hour each for the crochet.
I am up to 29 now.

I am curious about the feedback from the hospital. Did you need to use a special yarn type? That is awesome!

My local hospital was thrilled and willing to take any yarn even though I only used acrylic that my mom gave me.
I am going to do it again for Christmas hopefully.
But I do know that some hospitals will only take acrylic
