I have some natural wool and am waiting on acid dyes from Dharma. I'd love to hear where you've found the best instructions for hand dyeing or hand painting yarn.

I'd love to do both variegated with multiple colors and all one color, with some places lighter, some darker (what's the name for that?)

So, any and all wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sharon sells tutorials which I hear are quite good. You can find them here: http://www.irishbabyknits.com/catalog.php?category=14

Good luck! :D

Thank you!

After posting I also found the dyeing sub-forum right above. :nut (Must search more carefully next time!).

Can't wait to try this out!

I would agree that those directions are good - an excellent place to start acid dyeing. :)

(And I think you may be talking about kettle dyeing (darker, lighter of the same color) though you can also kettle dye different colors).

i've gotta say that dyeing isn't rocket science, a lot of it is intuitive.

i took several weeks worth of intensive classes when i first started out (a million years ago), and interestingly enough, most of what i do is just things i've worked out for myself over time. experimenting and playing will get you along way, as will a good class on color theory, probably the most important thing to know when dyeing!
