Grr... had this all written up and the computer froze. :mur
Anyway, here's what needs doing.
1. Organize volunteers to contact businesses about donations (starting with our members here perhaps?)
2. Develop a theme for Membership Drive Week. I think I have an idea... How about "Put your money where your mouse is"... Maybe a picture of fluffo with a mouse, something like that. (see below)
3. Graphics person to put together graphics, (banners, web pages, ads, etc,) to go with the theme. can we work with this type of look:
http://woolywonder.com/images/banners/knittingbanner.gif
http://woolywonder.com/images/banners/knittingbanner468.gif
Maybe we can use the 'girls are weird' font?
4. work with Michelle, (jmofarrill) to brainstorm/coordinate board changes related to membership (add membership field in user cp, add member levels, etc)
5. Flesh out the membership levels and put together an information page about membership based on the working one we have up in the subforum. Work with graphics person to make it purty.
???
I'm sure I can think of more, but want to go with this for now. I am planning on the first week of november - ish for our drive, I think a Friday to a Friday?
Thoughts??

Color me clueless, but I'm not understanding the membership thing. Will we need to start paying to post here? Or what?

Nope, not at all. It will be like public tv or radio, where you can make a donation to support the running of the site, and you get special 'member priveleges' ... make sense?

I like put your money where your mouse it, too. I haven't been able to come up with even a lame idea! I don't mind sending out emails and such to businesses, but I need someone to write a form letter. I have tried, but they just sound so tacky.

How about
Dear Moneybags,
Over at Wooly Wonder Forums (www.woolywonder.com/forums) we're talking about wool soakers. 200+ cloth diapering knitters and crocheters come to gather each day, posting an average of 132.60 messages per day. We talk yarn, cloth diapering, knitting, crocheting, WAHM business, etc. Is this demographic of interest to you and your online business?
Like public radio and television, Wooly Wonder forums is planning to offer members the chance to Put Your Money Where Your Mouse Isand become supporting members of the forums. By becoming supporters, members will get special member benefits.
That's where you come in. You can become a partner with Wooly Wonder Forums by offering a special discount or coupon to supporting members. For example, our partner at Fabriconnection.com offers supporting members 10% off in her shop with a special coupon code. Members will be likely to patronize businesses offering special discounts, free shipping, etc. Plus, your business's name will be circulated with our membership materials, drawing attention to your website.
We'd love to have you as a partner shop.
Please contact xxx, our volunteer in charge of business partner donations.
Additionally, to find out more about advertising opportunities you can look here: www.woolywonder.com/advertise.php .
Sincerely,
Pamela Grossman

Are we sending this to yarn stores in the real world? Should we make hard copies of this letter and send them out?

That sounds great. Why don't we start a new thread with a list of people/places that have been contacted, so they are not contacted more than once. Who will do that?

I am about to email Susan and Kittybids and I just realized that she doesn't charge anything to list right? She can't offer any kind of discount then. Should we have a second letter to send to companies that we can inform them of the ability to advertise here?
ETA: what should we put as the subject of our emails? can you tell i'm scared i may screw this up? :LOL

i'll make a "money where your mouse is" banner.
shall i use the graphics shown here, even though it's advertising a class?
pamelamama
09-26-2004, 08:48 PM
can you use the fluffo concept from those old ads and make him into something for the membership drive? Like with a mouse, instead of a sign, or a sign on the mouse, or soemthing like that? :idea
marnie
09-26-2004, 08:54 PM
sure. i just wanted to confirm that you did (or did not as the case may be) want the class info on it, too.
what else should the banner say?
pamelamama
09-27-2004, 09:55 AM
No, no class info.. that's old stuff. I just thought it would be helpful to have some graphics we could play with.

Let's take a look at our progress so far, shall we?
Anyway, here's what needs doing.
1. Organize volunteers to contact businesses about donations (starting with our members here perhaps?)
some people were working on this, but I am still wating to hear responses. Keep in mind we have to get it all together well in advance of Nov.1 Like at least two days before ;)
2. Develop a theme for Membership Drive Week. I think I have an idea... How about "Put your money where your mouse is"... Maybe a picture of fluffo with a mouse, something like that. (see below)
Do we like the money/mouse theme?? Can we brainstorm ways to utilize it?
3. Graphics person to put together graphics, (banners, web pages, ads, etc,) to go with the theme. can we work with this type of look:

Marnie, were you going to work on this? Any progress?
4. work with Michelle, (jmofarrill) to brainstorm/coordinate board changes related to membership (add membership field in user cp, add member levels, etc)
I'm also wanting a technical person to put togehter a member database for me!!
5. Flesh out the membership levels and put together an information page about membership based on the working one we have up in the subforum. Work with graphics person to make it purty.
???
Still need someone for this.

Im not good at organizing anything...but I can take that form letter and present the idea to my LYS's. The worst possible thing that can happen is that they would say we arent interested right now, but thanks for stopping by...right? lol

I don't have any updates, but I was under the impression that we were concentrating on in-house right now. Should I still be trying to find ppl that aren't members to email the form letter to? And, is it ok if I send it to basically any cd site? Or does it have to be suggested? It's not spam if I use their contact me link is it?
Sorry for the 20 questions! :blush

How about contacting businesses to become 'business parnters' ?? The letter is written already in another thread, you just have to send it. To cloth diapering businesses? You can look over at MDC for ideas. ;)
