Okay,

So I kool aid dyed my first batch and it turned out pretty good. It was a nice variegated purple. I was quite proud of myself. I knit up the soaker and I put it on my wee Sarah. Now her diapers are a blotchy purple. I used the microwave method where I nuked it for two minutes, let it rest for two minutes and then nuked it again for another two minutes. Obviously, I did something wrong. Help! I dyed another two skeins in the same way and I'm afraid that they'll bleed too. I thought I read in the posts about someone else having the same problem with bleeding but I can't find it.

I would nuke it MUCH longer. Did you prepare your yarn with vinegar first?

yup. I soaked it in warm water with a glug of vinegar. Do you not recommend the nuking method? How do I fix this?

Soak in water with about 1/4 cup of vinegar....let set a good long time...then rinse well and heat set -- I use a veggie steamer.

You can also put some salt in the water.

Should wash out of the diapers

How long should I steam for?

I would say 10 minutes is good. I have steamed and nuked for that amount of time on both methods.

Thanks so much! I'm going to try it first thing in the morning!
