looking for information to make my OWN pattern......... i want to make a skirt for my baby that is in about the 6 month size, how do i figure out how big to make it? I want to use stockinette.......... don't know what else i need from there...

This is not so hard, since you will have minimal shaping. Figure your guage in stockinette <a>. Measure the baby's waist. Subtract 2 inches <b>, multiply a*b. Cast on this number and rib for a bit, on smaller needles. Switching to larger needles, begin stockinette. On the first row, increase every fourth stitch or so for a smallish flair, every stitch for a very full skirt, somewhere in between for something in between. Remember that stockinette rolls, so you will either need to allow for that, or finish your skirt in seed stitch or garter. Some folks have sucess with reverse stockinette as well. Good Luck!

There's an old book at the library called Knitting From the Top Down that is great for stuff like this.
