Hello all. My first post- it's all looking wonderful so far. I'm glad there's a spot to go to for help on this pattern. I've been trying to make sense of it in my head but it's time to ask for help since I can't figure it out.

So, I want to do knucks via magic loop. Doing the fingers and thumb is pretty easy.. I'm understanding that.

Then I understand the part of joining the 4 fingers since the yarn tail will be all the way on the right and can join everything together.

But then comes the thumb part and I can't figure out how in the world it would work since the yarn will be several stitches in. Should I carry it cross the back of the thumb somehow? My brain just can't get wrapped around this. Any advice on this you can give from beginning or to end will be great- as I may not know as much as I think I do.

Tell me the position of your stitches on your magic loop needle as you get ready to begin the thumb. Do you have half and half, with the end of round at the thumb join edge?

Ack! I wrote down a whole explanation of how I think it might work with letters and everything but the system logged me out. Basically I'm thinking that I'm going to try and slip the first half of the stitches onto the bottom needle at the home position (top needle has the yarn tail). Then I'll knit around until I finish the index fingers on what used to be the top needle and then I'll slip the other half of the thumb stitches on so that they're still parallel to the ones I slipped first. I think that should keep it in order.

Sleeping on things really does work! I even woke up at 1am to try and work something out.

Awww! Thanks for making me feel so welcome. I feel like there's so much to explore on this board- I haven't scratched the surface. I hope I see you around often.

No unfortunately but not because of techniques issues but because none of my LYS have Rowan Felted Tweed yet. I'll post updates soon!

Have you figured it out yet? Because I need help with the magic loop method, too! I've considered going to DPNs just for the joining part, but can't bring myself to do it.

If you send me an email, I can shoot you a copy of my original pattern which has magic loop notes. :)

Jeanniefanihi over at Ravelry showed me how to join the thumb with Magic Loop and you won't believe how easy it is. Instead of joining the thumb at the beginning of the next round after the SSK, you put it on the needles behind the glove at the end of the round right directly after the SSK.

I borrowed the diagrams Jeanniefanihi made so here they are:

So as you can see on mine, this is the last round before the thumb join. I haven't knitted it yet. The stitch directly to the right of the blue stitch marker is going to be the SSK, then I can just work directly into the first thumb stitch which is the first stitch to the left of the blue stitch marker.

To get the thumb onto the needles like this, before you start that round ending in SSK, just slide the glove onto two different spare needles. Then slide the thumb onto your circs and then put the glove back onto the circs after it.
