I am new to knitting, I've practiced my stiches (knit, purl, bind off, cast on). Made a cute swatch... now I'm ready for a project.
Since I am going to be working a graveyard shift, and I do IT, one of the things I always complain about is cold hands, but being unable to type with gloves.
This pattern looks like a great solution! Do you think I can knit this as my first project? It looks smaller. My main concern is that I only have long needles (12inches), not smaller ones, nor anything in the round. Should I run to the store and get them first?

we can surely walk you through the project here. :)

Wonderful.
I am off to Joann's at the moment. I got some cute charcoal grey yarn...I think I want to put "Geek Gurl" on the fingers :)

ok what is a stockinette stich in the round? I know how to do a stockinette (knit one side, purl the other) but how would I do that in the round, since I am not turning over my needles?

Stockinette is the stich where all the smooth side is forward (facing the right side)...meaning knit....
So when you knit in the round you aren't turning your work you just knit.....
(when knitting flat you are purling-- b/c the backside of a purl is the same as a knit----and of course the back side of a knit is a purl.....)
And hopefully I haven't completely confused you.

No that makes perfect sense. :)
I googled it, some of the directions were confusing, but then I found....
flat knitting:
* garter: knit every row
* stockinette: knit 1 row, purl 1 row
* reverse stockinette: purl 1 row, knit 1 row
You must do all three differently when you're knitting in the round. This is because you're knitting in a spiral rather than back and forth.
in the round knitting:
* garter: knit 1 round, purl 1 round
* stockinette: knit every round
* reverse stockinette: purl every round
So that made sense. I finished 1... thumb :)

BTW I am on size 6 double pointed needles...They didnt have anything smaller, until size 1...So I figured I have gigantic hands, they will fit.. if not, then they can be my husbands :)
