i'm still finding the site very slow on the "new past" or reply pages. i know the first time i mntioned it there was a lot of work going on sprucing things up but i wanted to mention it again, to let you know it was still happening. there's a 4-6 second delay when i type (hence all the typos) and scrolling on the post/reply page is aslo severely delayed.

reading through the site is fine.

seems to me like some code issue: either too heayy or perhaps there's a coding problem with the forms. anyway, FWIW i'm using an apple powerbook running OS X 10.3.5 with 1.5 GB RAM and a 1 Ghz processor. I use primarily Safari though i ahve the same problem with explorer and netscape/mozilla, too.

it's really making it hard for me to post, as i get frustrated and walk away. i know, the silence isn't that bad, huh?

I use on a Mac at work, and I find the site loads slow there (regardless of Explorer, Safari, or Opera), and I occasionally have lag on the Post Reply page. We have a T1 at work, but *all* sites are slow there...

I cannot recreate the problem at home, but I was working w/ BethyM99 who is having similar problems. We disabled the Shoutbox on the main page, which helped w/ a refresh/lag problem. I suspect that the smilies don't help to speed up the Post page, so I scaled down the number that show up.

I did all this w/out consulting Pam, which is why I didn't scale down the smilies more... She's off today for Rosh Hashanah, so I'll be able to talk to her either after sundown today or tomorrow.

I'll also do some research at the forum support site and see what's mentioned there.

can you let me know if anything we've done today has made any effect on the lag?

the lag is the same for me. it was perfectly fine when the site first went live, when you guys added all the fancy features was when it got slow. i don't think the shoutbox was causing me problems as i never had a front page problem.

it's not my internet connection, as some pages on this site are fine and some are not.

I'm going to work w/ you on this problem until it's freakin' fixed. I support 300 Apple computers at work from the old PowerMac 5400s through to the brand-spanking new G5 towers. We have iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, and G4 Powerbooks/Titaniums that run various OS systems from 8.X all the way through OS 10.3.X. They are not my favorite computers to deal with, but at least I know my way around them. ;) At this moment, I'm at work using a G4 iMac running OS 10.2.8 and IE 5.2 I have a G4 Powerbook also running 10.2.8 that I'll take home and try out over the weekend.

The post reply page takes a bit longer to load on the Mac, but I think the setting is to get all the code for the page before rendering it. The images make it take longer...

I usually use the Quick Reply feature, which is why I wasn't aware that it takes longer for the posting.php page to load. Mine is not close to the severity that you describe, though, and I don't have a typing lag. Does your status bar keep going when the page is up? Should we only have a small handful of emoticons on the posting.php page? I have experienced some similar problems on other sites when working on Macs, but not on this site.

I'm sure Pam wants you to be happy and pleased w/ the site and is more than willing to scale back some things in order to make it run better for all.

ETA: I printed out the code for the posting.php page, and I'll go through it this weekend, too.

i always forget about the quick reply. i'm going to go try it (this is from the reply page and it's lagging).

ok. i have no typing lag at all on the quick reply. i don't think it should be the emoticons or other images because they should all be cached, right? even if not, those guys are tiny and for sure once they've gone through the ani one time the frames are cached.

Ok, I'm not on a mac nor do I know much about computers, but my emoticons aren't cached. THe stupid things reload every time I do a regular reply.

Hi guys I am testing the slow issue.......
I am wondering if it's just you MAC users that are having problems?
Is there anyone using windows that is having a problem? I am using Linux and things are working normal as far as I can tell.

I do know that MAC users have a problem with my website that is coded in PHP with some javascript
which is what this forum is coded in.

Have any of you tried using a mozilla based browser?

Please let me know so I can help fix this.

I can't help with the other stuff, but I do use foxfire (firefox?? which ever) at home. I initially had trouble with the plug-ins and needed to install the latest version of flash. But now it is fine.

HTH a little :D

I use Ubuntu Linux and mozilla firefox. I have the same problem with lag, but only after I add a smilie.

Sometimes the site runs kind of slow, like, I have a hard time scrolling up and down.

Just today and yesterday I am having a lot of trouble with extremely slow loading on my same old windows IE system. I keep getting 'cannot find server' messages and it's making me crazy!

Anyone else having a new problem in the past two days?

it still is (and always has been) so slow for me to do "post reply" that i never ever do. i can "quick reply" with no problem. edits kill me so when i make mistakes i usually leave them. i honestly don't think it's the smilies because they would load once and then i'd use them from cache.
