I'm looking for a poncho for the winter so I can sling dd#2 in the back. Like this one: http://www.metrocast.net/~hayes/ponchos.htm
The problem is, I don't like fleece and would much prefer wool. So I'm thinking about knitting one with really chunky yarn. Does anyone know of a pattern? I guess its just a poncho with a really big opening and maybe buttons to close it up if baby is not there. I'm not good at coming up with patterns or fudging, can anyone help?

That looks really cool!
I am knitting a poncho right now that starts in the roudn from the neck. I wonder if you could start at the neck, knitting flat, increasing in the front and back, but knit flat, then join it. and knit the rest in the round. Does that make sense?

http://www.lionbrand.com has a bazillion free patterns, and lots of ponchos. perhaps you could adapt one to suit your carrier/sling needs?

Thanks for the link.
Abigailvr: I'm not sure I understand. Do I start with knitting circular and then knit flat? I'm thinking if I make the opening really wide on top, then I can add buttons to close it up when I'm wearing the poncho without the babe. But I'm still not sure how to go about doing that yet.
