I showed my mom the pattern. She would need something in terms of a black leather type yarn. Would anyone know of such a yarn. Only yarn that comes to mind is LB suede, and I think that would be just too thick. Ideas?

What about a real narrow suede or leather ribbon? I've seen narrow leather sold for lacing(on spools), but I'm not sure how thin it is made.

If she needs leather protection maybe knitting them in the usual yarn and then sewing on leather pads. Or buying leather gloves and cutting the fingers off?

What about very fine leather lace on spools? I know there a couple of patterns that use that. A crochet floor pillow from a book I don't remember the name of :bag And a bracelet from Alterknits. I've seen them at Micheals. I don't know if any would be thin enough, you might have to do quite a bit of math :hide

This is a nice suede-like yarn: http://www.berroco.com/yarns/suede.html

I don't think it's as thick as the lion brand suede.
