I've heard you can knit soakers with wool blends, as long as they are not plant fibers which will wick the moisture through. I've never done so.
However, I'm currently in italy looking at loads of wonderful yarns, and fully 1/2 of them are 90% wool 10% acrylic. the yarn shop owner said it helps the wool hold its shape, but couldn't give me info re: soakers.

I would say to go for it! Esp since it's only 10% acrylic. Alot of ppl prefer to have some acrylic in their yarn.

Most acrylic won't absorb moisture so it won't hurt your soaker @ all. In fact I have several 100% acrylic soakers. They work great.

what's the benefit of having synthetics blended with the wool?

My understanding is that it makes it a bit easier to care for (someone please correct me here as I'm just trying to remember things I've read). I have heard that it keeps it's shape a bit better and the blend can affect pilling. Whether it's less or more pilling, I can't remember. If I can find links or remember anymore I'll be sure to post it here :)
