I've never done cloth before (Zoe was almost done potty learning by the time I really came to the whole MDC/natural living atmosphere) but we've since run into a bit of a snag.

She is a heavy soaker at night. I mean, the girl drinks 2 -3 twelve ounce glasses of water over the course of about ten hours. I talked to her paediatrician about it, and he said to let her drink as much as she wants, and to not cut her off after six o'clock or something.

So, my question is this - what kind of a 'pull up' or night time diaper would I be looking at for a child her age? She's 3.5 years old and weighs about 42 lbs; I don't see her being trained any time soon.

Someone had mentioned an Aristocrats wool cover and some prefolds (?) as a good solution (I'm not up on all the terminology yet!) and I also found a few websites with different night 'trainers' etc. I'm not at the point where I can knit anything myself yet, and I'm totally all for supporting a WAHM if possible.

Guess I was just looking for some tips or 'been there, done that' advice. Thanks!!

For my super soaker boys, I had to use a TON of hemp. I used hemp fleece, 10-15 full layers. Usually in a pocket diaper of some sort, with a heavy, wool soaker over it. It was bulky.

Okay, so I posted on the MDC diaper forum that maybe I could use an Aristocrat cover and a Kissaluv contour - and someone laughed. So I definitely don't know what I'm talking about... :idea

What kind of insert/prefold/diaper would need to go under a cover for really good night time absorbancy?

Thanks!

ETA - If it's considered bad manners or form to mention a certain brand or name of diaper, please feel free to let me know the, ahem, rules and regs so to speak! ;)

Before you buy anything you want to look at her actual measurements. My DS is only 2.5 but weighs 40 lbs. He is very solid. In some diapers he can still wear larges but in some he needs extra large.

If you want to do a diaper with wool cover you want to a very absorbant fitted diaper. I agree that a pocket diaper would be a good idea. You can customize how absorbant it is by what you stuff it with. For us hemp works the best.

I would check out www.snap-ez.com and www.cloththoughts.com

Those are the only two that I can think of off the top of my head that have pocket fitteds.

For a wool cover....my favorite non-knit wool cover is made by 7th Heaven Babies and you can order them through www.greenmountaindiapers.com The large still fits Aidan well and we have NEVER had a leak.

I hope this helps!!!

You could try toddler prefolds. Either snappied/pinned on, with perhaps some doublers or infant prefolds to increase absorbancy in the middle or they would work in the pockets or trainers mentioned above. Fuzzi Bunz pockets also come in larger sizes.

Our best nightime solution for my 5yo and 3yo ended up being toddler prefolds trifolded into a Tootle Shells cover, but they're not being made any more. :(

Motherease makes bedwetter pants that hold quite a lot, but they have a short rise and didn't fit my tall kids well.

I prefer a blend of two systems. We have fitteds with wool for most of the time, then pockets or AIOs for when baby needs something trimmer or for just because. When Moose was in his heaviest wetting phase he wore hemp fitteds under wool for daytime, and his beefiest hemp fitted with a couple extra hemp doublers under his sturdiest wool (at the time it was his pants I knit with Peace Fleece yarn).

To help you figure the terms out...

These need covers:
~prefolds- big rectangle of fabric with extra sewn down the middle, has to be laid in a snug wrap cover or pinned/snappied on before a looser cover (like wool would be) goes on
~flat- big rectangle of fabric you have to fold up then pin or snappi on, can also make a good pocket stuffer
~contour- basically a shaped prefold, no elastic on legs, no closures, will not hold poo in
~fitted- has elastic to hold poo in, snaps or velcro closures
~semi fitted or prefitted- has elastic at legs and maybe in the back, but no closures, needs a snappi or snug wrap cover
~pocket fitted- has an opening somewhere to stuff extra layers into

these don't need covers, the outer layer is waterproof:
~pockets, you have to stuff the absorbant layers inside after laundering
~AIO, all in one, will either have absorbant layers sewn in, or snapped in. Some with snap ins are called AI2s, some are just called AIOs

Covers can be PUL (laminated fabric) or certain types of microfleece, or wool.

My ds is almost three and only weighs about 26 lbs but he is also a very heavy wetter. I've had my best success using a prefold with fuzzi bunz (he's in a medium if that helps you with sizes). No leaking at all!! :) And with the fleece on the inside of the fuzzi bunz the wetness doesn't touch his skin and wake him up!!
