View Full Version : Making baggy pants?

How can I make the legs baggy on my pants? I use the F&F in the round pattern... should I just increase the calculation for the leg inches? Like if they send me measurements of 10" plug in 12 instead? Will that make the body of the pants too big? I am TERRIBLE at figuring stuff like this out... part of that whole I never mastered math thing I suppose.
Confusion!
TIA!

Baggier than if you just use the WWPants pattern? ;)

I don't have that pattern... I'm selling these from my license. :)

No, you don't want to increase the body size to get the legs a little baggier. I think what you want to do is do increases as you are casting off stitches or in the first row or two after you cast off onto the leg. For example, if your gauge is 5 stitches/inch and you want to increase 2 inches, then do 10 increases over your row (I'd do the knit into the stitch below & twist so you don't get a hole), spaced evenly (e.g. every 10 stitches if you have 100 stitches on your needles).

OK, so after I split for the legs I should increase along that first row of knitting? Am I following?
Do you think adding 2 inches to the leg measurements would make for baggy pants?

Are you talking baggy like skater baggy or just a little loose?

I think baggy like not like tights, KWIM? I like my baby wool pants to be tight but I had a request for looser fitting ones. I'm assuming ones that fit like pants instead of leggings.

Okay, wouldn't it look funny to have the top fitted but the legs baggy? If you want baggy pants, doesn't that include the whole thing? I don't think I've ever seen pants where the circumference of the legs combined was bigger than the circumference up above? Personally, I'd be disappointed if I asked for baggy pants and they fit up top but had really loose legs. Maybe I'm just on another page here...

I prefer a tight leg too....Maybe she is looking for something more like "sweat pants"? You know that kind of baggie?

Personally, I wouldn't go 2" extra. On a babe 2" can be an awful lot. Just my :two
ETA: But I'm a :chickytu: :LOL

Oh, I am a huge :chickytu:. So, you think maybe just add an inch?

Well, if you take a piece of fabric and measure it to 1" more than your babe measurements and see how big that is. I know it's not for your kid, but you'll get an idea of how much an inch adds on a little one. And remember how much wool stretches.

Have you emailed the momma to ask her what kind of baggy she wanted? I am having a hard time imagining the body being fitted and the legs being baggy, but I am pretty new to knitting pants so I don't really count.

I think I understand what she means... you know how some pants are like leggings and some fit like pants... she wants the ones that fit like pants. I have a couple pairs of Cushie Tushie pants that fit like nice loose pants whereas the Longies I make for Stella from the LTK pattern I make more like leggings.
I'll try to find a pic to show what I mean... she wants a seed stitch cuff so it will be like little boot cut pants.

then what she wants is something like the Wonder Pants.

Legs knit straight down with no increases, garter stitch at bottom.
Just a wide leg, I would say!

Pamelamama- you knit the greatest stuff! I agree with the :faint on those pants. I'm just starting to get bit by the pants bug... Waiting for my new yarn stinks! (But the wool I'm waiting for is for a cabled poncho for me. Yay! Me!)
