how much fun lace knitting is!:)

I took my first "class" this week. I loved it. I don't really need a class, but it is a good excuse to get out of the house and meet new knitters.

Well I am a TINY bit competitive so I raced through the first chart and did my first set of repeats in Chart 2 to be the farthest along in the class. I love it. So symmetrical (a triangular shawl) and math orientated. I love it when I get to a stitch marker and I have the right amount of stitches...I do a little "Yeah Me!".

I thought it would be too complicated to do with little kids around, you know knit 3 sts and run after a kid knitting, but it really isn't. It is broken down into little sections, perfect kid knitting!

I got a giggle out of the thought of a knitting race - Itttt's a race! (Ever see Ratrace, that Mad Mad Mad Mad World remake) Anyway.

Sounds like you are having fun , I have shyed away from charts since my only real experience has been with intarsia and I think intarsia blows. You have have inspired me to look into some heavy chart knitting.

I keep meaning to do more lace -- thanks for the push. I'd love to see what you make. :)

Well right now it is still teeny tiny, the class is 4 weeks long, but I will definitely post pics when it is done!:sunshine

It's funny that you posted this. Interweave Knits has an article on lace in this issue, and when I read it, they acted as though lace is complicated and intimidating, but nothing they specifically talked about sounded complicated or intimidating to me. But...I've knit many a pair of socks, which are a form of lace, and I've learned how to read my knitting and add yarnovers in where I forgot them and stuff like that. So it's no wonder it sounded really simple and elementary to me. I've already mastered the skill.

Now for knitting with two colors at once...still intimidated by that. :)

Yeah I don't think it is complicated, just lots of yarn overs and decreases.

It could be the fact that you are working with fine yarns and lots of stisches that puts some people off.

I'm still not sure I'm a shawl person, so we'll see if I use it.

Isn't lace fun? I just started my first lace project, the Branching Out scarf from Knitty, and I just love the look of the pattern. It's neat to do all those yarn overs and decreases and see a pattern forming!! Can't wait to see pics of your project!!
