Is anyone from north or central Illinois? I would really like to know if you know of any nice yarn shops that aren't in the suburbs (because I hate driving to the suburbs). But Rockford, Quad Cities, Peoria (even Bloomington) or anywhere in between--these are all about equidistant from me.

Actually, I'm going to stay with my mom for a while next week, so Springfield or Illinois side of St. Louis would work too.

I've never been to a real yarn shop and don't know anyone who knits, so I feel a little lonely in my obsession. Please point me to my kindred!

I live in the Chicago burbs. All of the yarn shops I know of are in the city or suburbs.

Maybe try an online search? I hope you find a good shop. :)

I live in the burbs south of Chicago and they are few and far out here

I live near Galesburg IL. There is a great yarn shop in Muscatine, IA. Crazy Girls Yarn Shop (http://www.crazygirlyarnshop.com/). Muscatine has a beautiful downtown area overlooking the Mississippi. Their are lots of other specialty shops and if you also sew quilts shops. I think I am going Thursday.

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back here. I've been searching online for shops, but it's sometimes hard to tell what they offer unless they have a nice website.

momtwoboys, that shop in Muscatine looks really nice! I've wanted to go to Muscatine for a while, because I've heard of some nice places there that I'd like to check out. It's a bit of a drive for us, but it'd be a nice day trip.

Kim, I'm in Dixon! So I'm really not very far from you. I go to Rockford a lot for fun, since there isn't much here in town.

I feel less lonely at least knowing that I'm not the only person with some of my interests in this part of the world. Most of my friends think I'm pretty nutty. Thanks, all!

Yes, yes, yes! Okay, hope I don't sound too desperate, lol. But a shop full of yarn . . . and people who knit. . . sounds wonderful to me!

Oh, and I'm surprised that I haven't been caught in Oregon yet, because I always forget what the speed limit is there.
