I was just going to start one how convenient :)
Im casting on tonight!
I have a quick question for you though, do you think the crab stitch is too tight to add to the waist band later on? Im wanting to try it out

What gauge does the EWS call for?

I've got a MWS on the needles now - doing decreases.

I have a MWS that is nearly done- just the legs to do ...maybe this would motivate me to finish it?

I'd love to start one today. :)

I knit one a couple of weeks ago, but found out that one skein of BBR isn't enough... I ran out of yarn with only 2 or 3 decrease rows left... :(

I'll definitely pick something that I have more than one skein of this time. ;)

Wow! I'm surpirsed that one skein of BBR isn't enough. I know the pattern calls for 5oz but usually BBR goes so far.
I'll take a look and I might be in too - we've outgrown our MWS and really need to do the EWS.

:nod

Yep, that's what I was hoping, but unfortunately it didn't work out for me... I've got to go dig through my stash and find something now.

I have one I started when I was preggo w/ Lily and never finished the leg cuffs on. lol It's the mini - I wonder if it'd still fit her or if she's too big for it already. I guess I could finish it and if she is too big I can give it to Amy for baby Simon. :) Good thing it's GN red. lol

Ooh, a dip dye would be very cool :) Boring as all get out to knit but very cool when done ;)

Just the motivation I needed to get started on one, since I bought the pattern a few weeks ago. I'm going to make a MWS (which may very well be everlasting for my skinny little girl!)

Hmm... crab stitch on the waist band. I dont know how it would work on a ribbing... maybe not elastic enough. Try it!

What gauge does the EWS call for?

Use a light worsted for about five stitches per inch in stockinette. It's a little tricky to evaluate gauge on this thing because it's ribbed.

Pam! I love the yarn you're using, it's beautiful! Where'd ya get it? :)

I'm just now starting. I couldn't decide on yarn yesterday... I'm using 2-ply Targhee dyed by Morwenna. I hope the Targhee isn't too heavy - I don't have much "light-worsted" in my stash at the moment. I think I'm gonna actually do a guage swatch, just to be sure!

pamelamama
04-05-2006, 07:34 AM
If you make it in a heavy yarn, you're going to be in trouble because that thing will be FAT!

My yarn is a mohair/merino from Hillary of Dashing Dachs!

smillerky
04-05-2006, 08:08 AM
Ok. I swatched it and got 5 sts/inch in stockinette on 7s. Will I be ok?

pamelamama
04-05-2006, 08:11 AM
yes I think so. How's the fabric? you dont purl crazy loose do you? is your ribbing pretty firm?

smillerky
04-05-2006, 08:27 AM
I only have 4 or 5 rows of the waistband knit, but so far it's looking pretty tight. I don't *think* I purl loosely... I'll knit an inch or two and see how it looks.

Thanks! :)

botannie

What about BBR? Is that light enough to use? If not I'm in trouble!

smillerky
04-05-2006, 05:54 PM
So, I'm on my 3rd waistband today!!! I tried two other yarns that just weren't working for me first. Then I tried some FBF that I got from Morwenna. I'm liking this MUCH better - much thinner than the previous two yarns. Hopefully I can get going on this and get it done in the next couple of days.

How is everyone else doing? Anyone posting progress pics? I'll try to get one of mine up this evening after the kidlets are in bed. :)

FBF worked for my last MWS!

04-06-2006, 04:05 PM
Okay, I've finished mine except for the leg cuffs, but I'm not very happy with it. The last knit stitch in each rib has stretched apart and it's really obvious, especially where it's grafted. It looks like there'e this random wavy line after each rib. I don't usually have this problem, so I don't know what's off. Here's a crummy pic, since I don't have a blog
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f39/kwilki8/PICT0006.jpg

I should have taken a closer view to show you how crazy my ribs look up close.

My yarn didn't seem to love me much when I was knitting, either, which is strange--I used LTK 3 ply and have used this a lot before.

So, I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do, finish or frog. Or maybe start over with a new yarn until I can frog this one, uncrimp it and hopefully woo my yarn back to me.

Any suggestions for fixing my drunken ribs?

pamelamama
04-06-2006, 04:24 PM
yep, washing and blocking should do a good job of whipping it into shape. Thats not an unusual occurance for ribbing.

kwilki8
04-06-2006, 05:55 PM
Yeah, I think I'll try that and then see what happens. I was just taken aback by how messy it looks right now, because my ribbing is usually a bit neater than this, even with a bit of separation at the edge. I think my tension may have been a bit wonky because I was not on good terms with my yarn last night.

Meanwhile, I'm starting another one while this one dries because I really like it :D.

Oh, and I was so excited when I grafted this because I figured out how to do it without a cheat sheet--I finally get the grafting logic!

Ok, I've added my button to my blog and have already started, kinda "informally joined", ;)
I'm making the MWS, cause the last EWS I made, came out too large, I'm hoping it will be of good size this time, using bfl.
Progress: almost finished with the wb!

pamelamama
04-07-2006, 05:03 PM
Nada's BFL made a really heavy and bulky EWS, probably ok for MWS, and it'll come out big-ish!

ladydemetreis
04-07-2006, 05:13 PM
I forgot to add I made the last one with Plymouth Outback, :hide

I'm not sure of this is Nada's bfl or not, I purchased from Averymybaby( Julia) so, maybe it is?

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the decreases and looking low on yarn! Where are you?

smillerky
04-08-2006, 08:26 PM
I've got about 4.5" total (including wasitband and body). I didn't get to knit much today at all since we were visiting w/ family most of the day. Thursday and Friday I was knitting the LTK apron top and crocheting the DD bunny... So, I'm hoping to get a LOT done tomorrow. I don't think we have any big plans. :)

Im about 10 rows from grafting, Im using bbr and its turning out nicely. At first I didnt really like the bbr, but with the MWS its a bit better to work with.

Looks great Pam!

How do you do your drawstrings? I'm looking for a nice, quick way to do thinner drawstrings. I currently do a 2 stitch i cord on small needles.

I love me some twisted cord drawstring. Pretty and whips up fast with my kitchen hand mixer!

I finished the 'body' section and had about 1/2 of the decrease rows finished when I realized that I was knitting with an incorrect number of stitches! :shake

I had to rip back to the body and start the decreases all over again!!! :nut

So, it'll take me another day or two to finish...
